    Hey All,

    A few weeks back an old lady backed into my front bumper and, according to the insurance adjuster, did $800 worth of damage. The bumper needs to be replaced…

    I would like to put an aftermarket bumper on it but A) I was wondering if there is someone in the New England area (I live in NH) that sells decent bumpers in that price range and B) given the propensity for rust in the New England area how steel bumpers fare in our environment?

    There are plenty of aftermarket bumpers on line but I can imagine the shipping would be pretty expensive due to the weight and size of these things. I wouldn't mind driving a reasonable distance to pick one up.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks DM

    Do you want a cheap one or a good one?

    A cheap one ain't good, a good one ain't cheap.

    @Pelfreybilt all the way

    Are there good ones out there for $1000 or so? I'm just starting the hunt and know very little about aftermarket bumpers...

    You could get an aluminum bumper so it doesn't rust. Most companies that offer steal bumpers offer aluminum as well.

    I believe the closest location that produces these on a normal basis would be SOS http://sosoffroadconcepts.com/ I can attest to the quality of their rock sliders being great

    Aluminum does corrode, though. Here in Colorado the magnesium chloride is tough on aluminum wheels, they starting pitting eventually, while being not as hard on steel. Traditional rock salt is definitely harder on steel than aluminum, though.

    To the OP, just FWIW, an ARB isn't much more than $1,000 brand new and in my experience the coating they use is very good. AFAIK they do an acid wash, galvanizing dip and powdercoat top coat. My last truck had a 10 year old ARB front bumper that had lost it's gloss but was otherwise holding up fine.

    Scrapes weren't causing too much rust weeping, which is what I find about regular powdercoating. That it's awesome as long as you don't let water get under it. Once that happens you'll find it will eventually rust underneath and bubble off chunks of it.

    ARB is a big company so in this case the economy of scale helps. Now whether they look good or fit your style is subjective.

    You can have my chrome one with trailer hitch for free while you find/wait for a bumper to be built for ya.

    Get yourself into the Armor section of the forum, and start reading a few days, weeks, months... huge selection to choose from, and everyone has their own personal favorites .. this is expensive enough that you need to come to your own decision, on which bumper is good for you, once you've done your needs and wants homework.

    I think OP is looking for a front bumper. Unless you really have a front chrome bumper with trailer hitch, in which case, would be super awesome.

    My last 4x4 was a 1999 Wrangler with tow hitch on the front bumper...it came in handy quite a few times.
