I changed my mind on my previous post. Consumer report is right... they arent worth a shiz. They're probably only worth half (If that) what yall paid for them. So with that said, PM me what you got and ill start buying them from people that dont like them. Sounds good for the worst truck made right?

I don't care what Consumer Reports says, but......
this is really tcbob's house and it appears that he is OK with members owning and liking other types of vehicles, not liking their Tacoma's, asking simple questions without searching for answers first, and behaving in ways that might upset others.
    Pretty freaking cool, right?

My bad. I recently purchased a Nissan Pro 4x. Didn't pay much attention to the post count.

    TW busybody? Take a selfie.

So what if I don't own a third gen. I was on the 2nd general forms for over two years (partially as a guest) determining the potential pros and cons of the truck before deciding to purchase
    Your point?

    Consumer reports:
Published article = "wins for reliability" http://www.consumerreports.org/tacoma/2016-toyota-tacoma-review/
Consumer Reports 2017 Lowest Rated Video ="worst reliability" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAkfiVkBP_Q
I have a feeling only old dudes submit data to CR. Their collection methods are perhaps outdated. Remember those who are solicited for information don't always represent the whole picture.

I'm about to dump my TDI and get a 17' SR+ MT AC so I can ditch the professional life and climb all weekend long. From what I can tell every Tacoma is simple and reliable. Like all vehicles when you add sexy shit it comes with risk. My biggest concern is the possibility of engine / tranny issues in the 2016 model but i'm pretty sure if any overarching issue is discovered the community here will be quick to isolate and Toyota will have no choice but to respond.

So this forum / you guys make the Tacoma a wise purchase. Easy to ask questions. Easy to troubleshoot.
    Thanks guys!

Stiff ride, clumsy handling, and can be loud....that makes it the worst choice? Geez who does the reports? Two dudes named Devon and Brennon that landed that job cause they love video games and didnt need an actual job cause they still live at home with mom and dad. yeah its not as smooth and quite as they're Prius but its a truck. I agree with the guy above about they are getting info from older guys, that typically come from a full size truck and expect the same smooth floating feeling from the tacoma. They are not suppose to be in the same catagory.

wow man, I was trying not to post in this thread, but dam you need to relax a little. I agree it gets tiresome listening to the same complaints over and over. I agree there are some previous geners that just trash the 3rd gen. But to give someone shit because they come on and give a review based on their experience and well done at that I might add, is not ok. You are the one that ended up with mud on your face here.

Do these trucks really cost $40K?

Considering the fit, finish, quality of materials, limited power, below average to poor gas mileage and the fact most of these trucks are slapped together down in ole Mexico by $2.00 an hour locals makes me want to question the inflated price tag.

The old rule of pay no more than 6 months salary for a vehicle obliviously doesn't apply these days.

Median US salary is only 53K.

Median salary at 53k. Theirs not much to buy in the 26,500 range unless your buying a car. theirs not hardly a truck made for 26k. and i for whats its worth, I paid 33k tax tag and title out the door for mine and its a 2017 4x4 sport.

You can get a 2017 Toyota Tacoma SR, I-4, 4X4, Manual Transmission for $24,130 MSRP

You can get a truck for cheap, but we have wants.

This is a pretty good thread once the posts by the usual suspects are gone.

I go by 20/60/10. Make sure you can put 20% down, and then make sure that the payments over 60 months do not exceed 10% of your take home income (including insurance costs).

Not sure if that's equitable but my truck is well below 6 months salary, I do know that much.

It's sad what has been done to weaken our money. The founders of this country warned about this.
Oh well. Wat are ya gonna do.
The 3rd gen Tacoma is an excellent truck. I wish I could own 2, but sadly no. I can't afford it. But at least I won't have to worry about replacing it for 20 to 30 years.

It looks like the Published version was early in 16 and talks about reliability Trackrecord and the video was after they got actual data from customers.

That factored into my decision to buy. I hope to keep this truck for at least 25 years, and typically do all my own maintenance.
I believe this is unusual and probably the half yearly income is based in trading in every +- 8 years, or something like that. I do remember reading something about " after 8 years of ownership, the vehicle is essentially free" , but it was a long time ago and was never able to track down the article. It stuck in my mind and I believe it is best to take care of a vehicle and drive it till it's junk.
Harder at the end driving a POS, but personally doesn't bother me that much.
Keep cool, TW is really great and it will be really helpful as I drive this truck to oblivion.

Complains are the number one source for improvement, second is competition. I'm pretty sure that if Toyota doesn't listen this complaints, then the 2018 redesigned Nissan Frontier is gonna take great market share.
