    Common core is a set of standards established by our wonderful super smart government. http://www.corestandards.org

    The ways of teaching math are attempting to teach kids manipulate the numbers better. All stuff I learned while in math team. It actually helps, but it is not the way most were brought up to think about numbers.

    That was my issue until math team, my son also struggles to explain it, he continues to say it just is, isn't it.


    It's folks like you they are targeting. It just builds upon the basic concepts more.
