Tips and Tricks on the 3rd Gen Tacoma

How? I have been trying to do this for a week and it won't go.

 

On the iPhone, go to Settings -> Bluetooth. Then click the (i) next to TOYOTA Tacoma. Then enable "Show Notifications"

I'm also in the neighborhood of 15% in a 30 minute commute with a S7 Edge. No complaints.

 

Don't get too excited. It's still inconsistent with displaying/reading messages.

 

So far It's never failed to read any txt I've received. How well it actually reads them is a different story.

 

I've never had an issue either. Would be nice to get a poll on who's phone causes issues, as far as I can tell, the iPhones work great and a few Androids do as well. Could be OS version based.

Since the latest Entune app update Pandora has been FAR more stable.

 

Just a tip I haven't seen posted yet. If you subscribe to Apple Music you have an almost unlimited music library that can be used with Siri. For example, you can hold the phone icon and say "Play some George Strait" and it will play random songs by whichever artist you choose or "Play Pink Floyd The Wall album" or ask for any specific song like "Play Hotel California". I once told Siri "Play a good song" and she responded "I'm sorry David, I couldn't find a good song in your library". My hip-hop loving niece was with me and laughed her butt off at that. They've updated it now where she plays random top of the charts songs now when you say that. Darn it. Anyway it works for me and I don't have to use a USB stick or subscribe to XM or anything.

i have an iPhone 6 and setting up messaging is easy and works great. But every time you turn the truck off you have to toggle the "show notification" under Bluetooth setting in order for messages to work again. I'm not going to do this every time. Super flawed system. I wish car companies would just give up on in house User interface and just do Apple car play or android auto.

 

Completely not my experience with my iphone7. Messaging works and continues to work without need for me to mess with anything. Unfortunately I have no idea why yours is having trouble, my reason to post is to show it is not universal.

The only issue I've had was the Entune phone app getting confused and Pandora not working. That seems to be resolved since the last app update.

 

See above, messaging is fine with my phone and I don't have to mess with anything.

While Entune is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, it beats the crap out of wired CarPlay from a convenience factor. I've had CarPlay n rentals while on business travel and it's fine if you're roadtripping, but sucks for around town usage.

 

I'm on a iPhone 6 with zero issues. Are you on the latest iOS?

 

Also get rid of any Quick Contacts on the headunit. Used to be that messed up messaging, I haven't checked since the last update though.

 

Its actually pretty good system compared to ford or subaru as far as music and navigation through it (not navigation, but they way the layout is).

I got a galaxy s6 active and had no problem with in my 2015 entunee, I did have to get a software upgrade at the dealer cause it was doing the same thing. But with this one it just seems and reset everytime and doesn't see my phone as a messaging device. On the phone everything is allowed in the settings for the taco, but I have to manually go into the taco messages app and always get the message asking if I want to receive messages from my phone. Its not a big deal, as I don't use messaging in entune, but I do like knowing I got a message, with music i normally can't hear my phone ringtone/vibration

 

Works fine for me on my iPhone 6 and wifes iphone 7. If you are having to reset that on your iphone each time, it's a problem with the iphone not the Toyota head unit.
If you set the "show notifications" when the phone is connected, and it forgets that setting, maybe try setting it when the phone is not connected, either way it's the iphone not the head unit. I just google 'iphone fogets bluetooth "show notification"', seems to be a few things to try.

 

It worked. Worked for every message for me. Having the ability to have the message read is really nice.

Yeah it struggles with my friend's name. Aztlan.

But another friend text me that I am a c*nt and it handled that fine. Lol.

 

I have had a few where it says receiving text with only ignore button active never gets to the point where read is active.
