I honestly don't think there's a lot wrong with NASCAR, but it's pretty obvious that they're losing fans and market share. I wasn't a real fan of the chase for the championship, but I got used to it, and I really don't mind the new segment format. Kind of reminds me of the local tracks back when I used to race dirt track.

And therein is part of the adjustment that NASCAR is having to make. I don't know what it's like where you live, but I'm seeing less and less dirt tracks for the weekend racer. Less short track fans has got to mean less NASCAR fans.

I think in the past NASCAR really appealed to the gearhead/hotrodder types. But the performance car was a staple for all the manufacturers. You could buy a car and increase its performance by changing carbs and cams, adding headers...basically it was really hands-on. Then came the electronic invasion. Now you change out a computer chip and that's about all you can do. I grew up working on cars simply to keep them running. I have a 32 year old son who likes cars, but he grew up after computers began to come into play in cars, so he has no idea how to work on a car. I guess I should blame myself for that.

NASCAR is now trying to appeal to the video game generation. No offense to anyone here, (the fact you're on an automotive forum probably means your excluded from the blanket statement I'm about to make) but for the most part I think we're talking about men and women that don't really care about the mechanical aspect of racing. Now it's about the show. I think it's a tough task for NASCAR. There's more competition than ever for the entertainment dollar. I applaud that they're trying to make changes to remain viable.

After the last several posts, pretty obvious what the issues are with NASCAR, but I think we can all agree we enjoy it still and this year will be better than the last. That's got to count for something. Itll never be how it was, but as long as the sport continues to try to improve I'll be all in.

Everything is great, just add another race at Atlanta, and dont use a plate at Pocono or Indy.

I don't have one... yet. I'm shopping right now for one with a pair of talk back headsets so me and the little one can chat during the race and hear the drivers. It's a little down my wishlist though. #1 is an Smith & Wesson MP15.

You an go cheap for like $75 scanner & headset combo. A lot of folks use the Uniden Bearcats. You can get pricey if you dip into Racing Electronics stuff.

Hey! We've had some great discussions in this thread so far. We're beating the pants off the Formula 1 thread.

    Here's a quick challenge:

    1. What are your favorite '17 schemes (feel free to pick from the top 3 series)?

    2. What is your all-time favorite scheme?

All time? Now that's asking a lot as I have a bunch of favorites but I can narrow it down to this:

    All-time favorites?

Like @Bsheriff11 , Davey Allison's "Battlestar" has always been a favorite. I got to see the real deal at the Talladega museum two years ago:

My all-time favorite (by a slim margin) over Davey's '87-'88 car is his dad, Bobby's last Miller High Life scheme:

Darrell Waltrip had a couple of great looking cars. The Western Auto fade always looked cool. So did his #17 Tide Lumina (during his short stint with Hendrick), the Mountain Dew cars, and his Bud scheme with Junior Johnson:

Earnhardt's Wrangler Monte Carlo was another favorite:
