Obviously you are working to conteracting the Karma of others, just keep saying it will only be a "light dusting" to get full snow effect.

Need probably two more real heavy snows, and some regular showers in April and May to get things ready for campfire season.

But that hasn't happened in years. We'll get one more piddly snow, then it'll be roasting all summer and everything will be bone-dry. Cue the fire bans.

It does kind of suck about fire bans during camping season.

But at this point I'm more concerned with drinking water and water restrictions.

High elevation snowpack levels on both sides of the divide should have us covered there. The foothills watershed doesn't really give us too much of our drinking/irrigation. The people will be using more to make up for the losses down here. I need more everywhere because I was planning for grass this year.

Here's the So Platte River Basin snowpack. This is the basin that serves most of us in the front range

So long as we can push the peak out a bit further into April we should be "okay"

Their are "diversion" tunnels that bring us water from the Upper Colorado and Blue River Basins

    No doubt.

I'm also all for the project proposed 10+ years ago about setting up pumps at the state lines that pumps excess water back up over the divide if we're sending too much to the neighboring states.

One day it will be a huge issue but the US Gov't divided up and gave away Colorado's water long before we even became a state, eventually this will need to be re-done. Does the South West USA really need their lawns in desert conditions?

Yeah, I'm well familiar with the Colorado River Compact(s).

They always say... had we settled from the west Colorado wouldn't have such dicey fresh water supply issues.

And I always shake my head at the greening of the SW deserts, but who are we to judge? We live in a steppe climate and use the vast majority of our fresh water for residential agriculture too.

I have a small plot of sod to enjoy in my back yard. Otherwise it's either hardscape or xeric drought tolerant plants.

In the front I'm going to plant a thyme lawn.

My whole lawn is pretty much dead, front and back. Not because I'm an ungrateful renter with a crap landlord, but because I feel a civil obligation to save water...yeah, that's it!

I replaced 70% of my backyard with garage and patio/driveway. Does that count as xeriscape?
