what shocks

what kind of shocks should i go with. i have a total of 7 inches of lift but im wondering what shock to put in the rear that wont be maxed out. i also what good quality. something with a reservor maybe?

 

fox, Icon, Bilstein

 

im thinking bilstein cuz i dont want to break the bank spending 500 a shock. but i need to know which one will be long enough

 

I knwo I got my bilstein 5125s in a custom length but they arent resevoir. Im not 100% but I think Icon and Fox can do custom lengths as well

 

bilstein 7100's have the resis I think.

 

im not to worried about the reservor just want a good quality one that wont blow out. yall know what i mean??? and are shocks adjustable or does it matter on how much they are compressed???

 

what do you have that are you at 7 inches of lift?

what is your rear lift combo?

the bilstein 7100s are 2.0s and come in different travel lengths from 8" to 14"

im running 7100s in 12" travel in my rear end... collapsed they are 16" long and at full extension, they are at 28"

you need to cycle your rear suspension with the shocks off to see what your collapsed length and full droop length would be, then find the right travel shocks for your suspension...

or you can guesstimate...

stock height is 6.5" travel, typical AAL or shackle lift is 8 to 8.5" travel, mid travel lift is 8.5" to 10" travel, mid travel on steroids (my own term) is 10" to 12" travel, and then long travel sets you into 14" to 18" travel...

 

im running the version with the reservoirs... in valving "04" which is 255/70...

 

im running the dakars and a inch block in the rear. then 4 inch camburg spindles up front with ome 885

 

you should be fine with 10" travel shocks in rear...

 

woops i meant to say a 4 inch block in the rear.

 

definitely need to cycle that suspension... im guessing a 12" should be enough though...

 

also with the dakars, i would ditch the blocks and do a shackle flip kit with custom shackle instead... you would gain your lift height, but gain more travel and better flex and a more caddy of a ride...

with the increased travel, yes but its worth the ride...

on our wheeling rigs we cut the pipe just before the axle... looks ghetto but its function over form...

i seen some rigs reroute the pipe above level of the frame to avoid the axle

 

well this is a daily driver and my mom payed for the truck and i dont think she would be happy if i went without a tip so i will be re routing but thats no biggie. but back to the shocks. what do you think i should run??? ad would you re route the shocks to more of the middle of the axle?

 

im runnin 12" shocks on my setup... didnt relocate the shocks...

u should be fine in stock location...

u would be good with 12" short body 7100s

Hear is an example of why u would, if u want shock mounts in your trucks bed for long travel so u can run 14" shocks or other large sizes u have to relocate them becasue the stock location is not as secure and would not work with a cage or large shock mounts in the bed of the truck, so ud have to weld new shock mounts on the axle. Thats as basic as i can say it. For LT, stock locations wont cut it.

But for a set of replacement shocks like billy 5100 or a bit larger, your totally fine

 

for rockcrawlers, /\ helps with articulation... mybuddy's truck is setup that way... it flexes really well...
