Yes, I actually took the truck yesterday to Progressive Service Center, and they will 'cover' it, but I still have to pay my $500 deductible.... which I don't want to... so I've placed a call into Toyota Corporate as suggested by others, and they will be 're-reviewing' my case to see if they can do anything.... so by Thursday evening I'll know if Toyota will step up, I'll definitely update the post.

Do you recall if the recirculate options was on when you turned the AC on? Modern cars have come a long way with their door and window seals, and if the recirculation was on with the AC, it is possible a significant pressure change between the cabin and surrounding ambient conditions caused the weakest link to break which explains the glass breaking outward like that.

BMW was originally covering the problem. It was occurring on E90, E83, E84, and E70 vehicles. BMW was requesting the glass back and eventually stopped calling parts back and stopped warranty on the issue. That I'm aware of nobody quite knew what the cause was and BMW sure wasn't telling anybody.
But you are correct, it's not a warranty issue with BMW any longer. I don't remember ever seeing this issue on ANY car prior to 2006 but I could be wrong...maybe some defect with the glass I would have to guess. Either that or there is a bird out there in desperate need of stool softeners.

The best part about Toyota corporate is that they have visibility into a broad range of issues. It might have been the first and only case your specific dealership has had. Toyota Corporate will have a database of other instances of it occurring and can authorize warranty work.

Having your dealership on your side (or at least not pissed off at your because you went full retard on them) goes a long way into getting Toyota Corporate to authorize the fix. Remember, the dealership gets paid by corporate to do the work. That's $$ in the bank for them. They are, in some ways, incentivized to want to help you out. Don't go in being an asshole and give them a reason not to.

Partial retard is fine. Full is frowned upon.

More than likely yes. Since the car had been running for a while and all the hot air was out, I probably put the recirc on for colder A/C

If that were the case then why did only the Sunroof shatter, shouldn't have all the windows broke with the temp change?

I think the takeaway here is to never close the sunroof?

I had my 2017 for a couple weeks and my sunroof exploded. I was pulling from the street into my driveway and just as the rear tires came up on my driveway the glass popped and exploded. Toyota took care of it. My guess (in my situation) was that there was some flex involved and tweaked the sunroof just right to crack it. Good luck!

The sun hits the sunroof glass more directly. It is also tinted so it absorbs the heat more. That glass is also insulated from the inside with the slider which will help keep the heat at the top.

Did your dealership take care of it as soon as you notified them about the problem or did they give you the 'run-arounds'?
In my case, I took it the next day (because it happened at night) and the Service Manager said that after talking to his Regional Manager that it wasn't something that they could replace, and that I had to go through my car insurance.
When talking to the talking to the Service Manager we were very calm and were just explaining what had happened, and that we had not seen anything visible while driving that would have caused it to break, he just said it could have been an existing very small crack that just needed a small move to break it completely. Bottom line, they didn't accept it was a problem with the vehicle, nor it would be covered by Toyota's warranty.
Ended up calling Toyota Corporate yesterday, and they are going to 're-review' the case.

It wasn't too difficult. They said it was probably caused by an outside source (rock) while I was driving. I had 100 miles on the Tacoma at the time it broke, and I was running my gopro. I showed them the footage of me pulling slowly into my driveway and that was enough for Toyota to see I wasn't bombing the truck down the trails, but simply pulling into my driveway. I'm sure it varies from dealer to dealer, but I found it relatively easy to get it replaced.

EDIT: This happened to me at night, in January. Temperature was -19F at the time and I had driven around the block (truck was still cold) to test out the gopro.

Just giving you all an update on this issue, I got a call back today from Toyota Corporate and they said they would not replace the moonroof/sunroof because it was considered an "outside influence" that caused it to break.
This was determined by the Regional Manager whom represents Toyota Corporate, and the lady that opened up my case (whom called me) said that she tried to at least get some help to cover the cost of the deductible but even that was denied.

    I'm extremely disappointed with Toyota.

Just to give you a bit of an insight...
Prior to owning the Taco, I was the owner of an Toyota Echo 2002, which I bought directly out of the dealership, I loved that little car, and took it to the dealership for every single thing (except tires and battery replacement).... actually the last day I took it for an oil change.... I know, I know... who takes a 14 year old car for an oil change to the dealership... well, I do... anyway, that was when we bought the Tacoma, my hubbie had wanted a Taco for several years, and this one just caught our eyes.... we thought: " ... if the '02 Echo hasn't given us any problems, this truck will be even better ...", so we took it home that day.

Bottom line, I have come to the conclusion that Toyota doesn't really care for loyalty nor clientele.

Toyota seems to be killing it with their Tacoma brand.

Good job Toyota! Keep it up!
