Yes--click here--you will need a properly functioning rear O2 sensor.

Not that this will not trick a tail-pipe sniffing emissions tester...

I've made a couple. They are easy as long as you realize the sensor wires are StainlessSteel and hard to heat. Use good flux.

To tell the truth though an electrical guy told me butt connectors would work as good. Just might come loose.

So you never have random inspections by the Hwy Patrol in AZ? Where they pull over vehicles, examine for things like light function, tire condition, and run a mirror underneath to see if the cat is still in place?

Seriously, Bill? Like you, I'm from a non emission state. Is this something that occurs regularly? This is something I know little about.

Getting pulled over for no reason seems like a violation of a person's rights. A missing cat would not be a reason to be pulled over. How would LEO personal know there was no cat?

Not just Fl. To check for cat presence, they just run a mirror on a stick under the vehicle.

Ive 'heard' that creative types split, gut and fit an empty shell around the exhaust to visually deceive. Although I've never 'seen' such a thing. ;)

I've been in AZ all my life and never had an officer look under my vehicle. Not that it couldn't happen. Anything is possible. As for the lack of a cat, my nephew tried to put a soldered inline resister to create a delta reading but didn't work, perhaps we will try again with hopefully the correct amount of resistance. Any suggested value?

    I'm sure that happens.
It seems like a lot of work for a daily driver vehicle.
Hopefully, if I get pulled over, it was for a real reason.

There's nothing really to be gained by removing it. But some people will tell you about removing them off their 1984 F-body and gaining Knight Rider speed.

    So, so true.

    Most don't realize this.

Unfortunately the ones that do, removed theirs because they plugged the cat because they were too cheap or lazy to fix what caused the cat to plug.

Once removed, the truck does run better because there is no plugged cat restrict the exhaust.

I have heard diff. vehicles or even diff same makes respond to varying resisters, look for rec'd for Toyo. I think it really just is supposed to match the capacitor. 1 mf, 1 ohm. or 5 mf, 5 ohm.

Pull that camper on a hot TX day and there's a good chance of plugging up the cat, I melted one pulling a large boat.

Basically, running at or near wide open throttle with a load down the hwy. can do it.

Butt connectors work well, and as well as solder, IF you fill it with dielectric grease prior to inserting the wires, and use a staking type or better yet a full compression crimping tool.

    staking type:

    full compression type (finest kind):
[IMG] (shown), $12 w/a 20% off coupon, and often on sale for $10. I also have a 30+ year-old crimper made by Paladin Tools (now Greenlee). The HF tool crimps just as well, time will tell if it lasts 30 years...
