I heard good things about them until I went there to have an alignment done, a guy told me to take it to the dealership. I asked him why? He told me his alignment specialist was now employed at the Toyota Dealership. Sometimes down the road, if I need anything from American Springs I will go.

 

any of you guys know of a good all around shop up here in flag? i dont wanna waste all my money at the dealership. i know i need some front end work my CV boots are toasted! HELP!!!

 

I actually DONT recomend American spring. They have screwed 2 people over that i know.

 

Have any of you had any experience with Flagstaff 4x4? I personally have not but I know my ex-boyfriend (he has a lifted 2000 Taco) had several good experiences with them...

from what i have seen and been in there they look pretty overpriced. Maybe they do good stuff tho, i dont know

 

They are overpriced. They were going to sell me a pair of shocks for $180. 4WP had the same shocks for half the price.

In the end, I did not buy from either.

 

Been around these for a while...

American spring is fine for some things but sometimes forgets to put lug nuts back on and hook up 4x4 after done. Buying parts from him seems ok, he's given me the wrong ones a few times but I got some custom arched add a leafs that were fine. Although I asked for more arch and they were less. So ask for a little more than yuo need, even with them doing the measuring.

Flag 4x4 does alright work but has always been high priced. They seem to take you if at all possible, just like most every shop these days, especially in Flag. For example, switching out warn hubs on a 89 Suburban cost a friend something like $800.

Tsb undercar seems to have better prices on (exhaust) parts then most up here. And Manny, the owner is a nice guy. I've never had any auto work done there or personally know anyone who has, but he might be worth trying. It's been cheaper than Muffler Magic every time I've gone in for more pipe or mufflers. And sometimes Junior over there is kind of a pain.

Coconino Auto has a great selection of auto parts and seems pretty reasonable. I personally know the owner/son and family and they are good guys. We try to use them whenever possible for parts.

Absolute transmission or Mclure Transimission have always been pretty good to me. As long as you know what you want/need you are fine at Absolute, otherwise he hopes for a little upselling, but not as bad as some (aamco!) McClure has been around for decades and builds good stuff and will tell you what you need or don't, but these days will also charge you for it sometimes.

Discount Tire is the cheapest tires in town. I've tried to go local about a half a dozen times, but even at Anderson General Tire that claims they guarentee the lowest out the door prices, they usually end up being about $300 higher per set of tires. As far as work goes I haven't had anything done there, other than being told sorry, evne though we guarentee the lowest price, thats the best we can do. Kinda screwed up I think, the old "get you in the door and hope you don't check around for other prices" gig.

For aftermarket parts, online is almost always cheaper than getting them in Flag. Even stock shocks for a chevy truck will cost you almost the same as aftermarket ones online. (From O'Reilly checker at least)

I have always had great luck at Anderson General, they are located behind the farmer's market. Mike was the guy in the shop I always had wrench on my vehicles when I lived there. Mike is a great mechanic. James, the guy behind the counter is solid too.
