I bought it last time they went on sale but have yet to use it, but when i looked into them they didn't seem to be as weatherproof as stated.
I just got it for shade tho.

I have. Set up over the back of my truck to extend my quarters.

Photobucket has gone wonky so I don't know if these links work.

You guys and gals might appreciate this. Spent the weekend in Joshua Tree with the massive TW meet. Weather was gorgeous and I had options for my camp that night. Pulled the rear seat out of the truck so I'd have plenty of room for a sleeping pad and bag. Had my single tent, but given the super rocky ground coupled with scorpions and rattler season, I thought of that as my last choice. In the end, the night was cool in the high 50s so while everyone was in their RTTs and kicking around rocks and tarps for their ground tents, I strung up my hammock between a buddy's truck and my own. Wool blanket under me and my cheapo bag kept me warm all night under the stars. Bonus was "packing up camp" the next day was under a minute.

I bought 2 Kelty tarps several years back and have used them many times.
Treated both with waterproofing and have not had any issues.

The ones I have were part of some makeshift car-awning kit they made. Can't imagine the construction is any different.

Do you know the material weight, these are 68D, the backpacking ones are usually lighter weight fabric for weight conservation.

    Kudos for ingenuity!

I've hung between a truck and a tree, a truck and a rock face, and between two rock faces.

Dont ya just love the ease of set up and break down?!?

Seriously. I've had the hammock in the truck since I bought it. Used it twice for random BBQs or get togethers, But this was the first night I spent in it. Last few trips to the desert I only has one mounting point (the truck) to work with so I never got to enjoy it. I did find that I need a bigger one so this one will get handed off the to Mrs. Woke up the next day and I could feel the compression on my shoulders (6'1"), but some good stretching loosened me right up.

I made a set of those for a buddy. Nice, but the only thing that gets me is the extra few minutes it takes to deploy:
Park, set the base, drive the truck forward, then get out and finish deploying. I know it only takes a minute, but one of those things that makes it a little more of a chore.

I really like what @deadhed61 did with his and once I get a steel rear bumper, I'll be following his example here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/deadhed61s-build-up.264005/page-10#post-8794687

Add an awning to that side and you're good to go!

I have a couple trips to Padre Island in the future.

Hoping this works out like I think it will.

Just got some 3VGear in the mail yesterday. This stuff is premium quality and craftsmanship. The price is super reasonable too! Check them out if you need a quick day pack or even an overnight duffle. Can't wait to put them to the test on adventures :woot:

Ha, I had some friends in JOTR last weekend and they saw a lot of Tacomas. She sent me photos and was like look, you could have been like these guys (since I do not own a Taco anymore). Small world.

There were a lot of FJs an T4Rs too. Even a random Accord was on one trail that had no business being there, but there it was.
