Let me source two relays first.

Keep in mind, I do require your relay in exchange after I send the modified one.

If you want to keep your relay, then the price is different.

Don't want to steal the thread, but does this focus on one specific power outlet or all of them?

I finally got around to doing this mod today, only hard part was getting the kick panel off to get to the lower bolt. On my 13 TRDOR the fuse block was far to the left, the relay was almost in the door jam it was so close. Used a small flat blade screw driver to gently pry up on the relay, came right out. Piece of cake after that, as I've done soldering/brazing for over 45yrs so the relay was nothing.

I read someone asked about the usb outlet, this did not energize that on my truck, only the two 12v outlets.

    Thanks for posting this mod.

edit: When I first started the truck after doing this, the check engine light came on, I said wtf. Then I noticed I'm within 300 miles of my next oil change, and the light went out after a short time. Felt so much better.

    Steps:

    1. Remove 10mm bolt on right hand side of the panel under the steering wheel. (Bolt is located underneath a little flip down cover by the coin cubby)
    2. Remove driver door sill. Get leverage on the inside of the sill and pry outwards toward yourself. Use a plastic tool if necessary.
    3. Remove the foot rest. Simply grab and pop this sucker off.
    4. Remove the now exposed hand screw keeping the kick panel secured.
    5. Remove the kick panel.
    6. Remove the (now exposed) second 10mm bolt securing the panel underneath the steering wheel.
    7. Pull the the panel off from under the steering wheel. Disconnect any connectors to make access if necessary.
    8. Remove the metal bracket securing the fuse box to the frame. 2x 10mm bolts.
    9. Remove the 2x 10mm nuts securing the fuse box in place.
    10. Pull the fuse box forward. There will be 3 blue relays. It will be the closest one to you (In the very corner on the back of the fuse panel)
    11. Remove the relay. (You can check to make sure you pulled the correct relay by turning on the ignition to verify that your outlets no longer have power. you don't need to turn the engine on)
    12. Remove the cover from the relay using a small flat head screw driver or equivalent. It will pop back together when you're done.
    13. Wedge something underneath to force the contact up and close the circuit. (or solder if you deem that necessary) I just used a little piece of electrical tape.
    14. Close the Relay and reinstall everything opposite of removal.
    15. Test before reinstalling everything again.

@ramonortiz55 , @3slowto4woah , @tcBob . Posts like this is why tacomaworld is worth it.
After seeing the orginal I post, I have had this mod on my "to do" list for literally years.

Thanks Ramon for making this mod known (and offering a very reasonable way to get a properly modified relay)... and also not to mention the countless REPUTABLE group buys that you conduct!

Thank you @3slowto4woah for providing the step by step instructions to do this mod. After having this mod in the back of my mind for so long, your post gave me the confidence to just get it done!

@Unchained 5150 , Thanks for being an awesome dude. Wish I lived closer, we'd get this knocked out in no time!!!

Thanks bob for creating a site where we can share nuggets of information about our trucks. Tacomaworld is truly a gold mine for those willing to do a little digging.

My 2 yr old daughter is happy to report that her movies are no longer interrupted when I need to refuel. The DVD rendition of "Moana" is the latest installment of pure delight that I am happy to oblige in for the duration of our treks to more important endeavors.

To anyone considering this mod, do it. It's worth it.

Very nice, steps 3 and 4 would have helped me greatly, I knew something had to be holding the kick panel in place. For some unknown reason I didn't go looking as to why, I just pried the panel over enough to get the dash nut off. It all worked out, I now use the outlets more than I thought I would.
