This is just my limited experience. I honestly don't know what the rule of the road is for it.

I've seen maybe a dozen instances of lane splitting. Every time it was when we are sitting in traffic and the motorcyclists are going at least 25 mph between the lines. Or so it seemed to be that fast when sitting in 0-5 mph traffic.

Would more than likely have to disassemble half the car just to insert it.

Yeah so far it's been real easy to work on.

Only thing that sucks is my hands are too large to actually change the headlight bulbs without removing the entire front bumper

Where to start. There's many studies on this if you like figures. The fact of the matter is that lane sharing (proper term) done correctly is not only safer for the rider but it cuts down on traffic and keeps your bike from over heating. It is also not legal in California it's just not illegal. CHP's words not mine. There was a time when California was actually encouraging riders to do it, but they stopped that fairly recently. It's hard to say without sounding like a douche, but realistically if you don't ride you don't get it. When lane sharing you're not supposed to exceed 10mph faster than surrounding traffic and you're also not supposed to go over 25mph. You're much more likely to get rear ended as a bike in that type of traffic. I would lane split i25 all the time when I had my bike and could easy tell what people were about to do. A good rider has that awareness and unfortunately it only takes a second of not being vigilant for something to go wrong. Also the fact the drivers are mad that riders don't have to sit in that traffic so they'll purposely try to block them.

    Plethora of "useless" shit
Thanks for that detail and point of view Asher. I don't think it sounds like a douche saying "if you don't ride you don't get it". As with most anything, in order to fully understand you need first hand experience. Sadly awareness in traffic is so lost these days people constantly put others at risk without regard other than their entitlement to the road and the need to reply to that important text.
And for the record I have always moved over to make room when I saw a motorcyclist coming through, why be mad because he/she chose a different mode of transportation

I think that's the biggest truth. If ya don't ride you don't get it. Not to extend this farther but it also applies to semi. So many people have to get in front of us or get all pissed when we pass another rig but are only going a few mph faster. News flash most semi have speed govoners. We're the big kids on the road and can squish you like a bug. Give semis room! Give motorcycles room!

    Agreed 100% with y'all both!

    Never enough
My issue with semis passing other semis is it rarely happens even remotely quickly. Most times they will drive side by side for miles and miles cause neither can muster up enough speed to get fully ahead of the other and neither will slow down a bit to let the other pass. Meanwhile all the cars on the road are stuck going 10+ mph slower than they want to be going waiting for this stalemate to play out in slow motion. Very frustrating.

Ditto, but this crotch rocket was hauling ass in the middle lane, helmet was secured in the rear instead of wearing and all I can think of is organ donor here it comes.

Now with legitimate truck question I think:

I am pretty sure turd gens have curtain air bags on the A Pillar. So if you drill holes on the outside of the pillar will that cause any issues? I am afraid to drill too far in and jack up the air bag system :notsure:

I don't ride but I make it a point to pay attention to where motorcyclists are around me and to give them extra room - sometimes that means I'm the one being tailgated if the motorcycles ahead of me are slow, but better me than them since I'm in a big metal box. And you're right that semis are similar in a way. If someone is passing a semi, whether it's a car or another semi, I usually hang back behind the semi getting passed until the vehicle ahead has made its pass so I'm not hanging out in a blind spot. Before I make a pass I try to make sure that the semi I'm passing isn't going to need to move over for something like a car pulled over on or getting onto the highway.

It's worse when the pass attempt is going uphill. While frustrating, I just think to myself that at least I won't be getting a ticket while this is happening :D

TBH, I've found that semi drivers are a lot better than the average car driver I encounter on the road.

Yes! Agreed. And in a case like this I understand a car or onother truck brake checking one of them. The proble is similar to how Denver is, trucking used to be a tight community, not it's a free for all and there are so many foreigners on the road. And not to forget the many that are talking on the phone paying no attention to traffic. I've seen some texting while passing them...

From my few years on the road, do not sit side by side of a semi! I don't trust the other driver. And you're be amazed that many of these trucks shoukdent even be on the road with the amount of things wron with them. But dot doesn't have enough man power to get them all off the road

At times I wish every one would have to get or test and pass a commercial license test to be on the road. It would many them a lot safer if everyone knew

Yeah I purposely said a couple of times "I"m not a motorcyclist so I have no idea."

I understand the premise and it makes sense, I'm also just all too familiar with drivers only caring about shaving a few seconds off their commute at any expense.

I'm very cautious and aware as a driver. Hell the TW little pissants (term of endearment) mock me for the way I drive.

When I first got my driver's license it was a big deal. Rules of the road, awareness, the "little things" to make it safer for you and everyone around you. Nowadays it seems as though none of that matters. FFS just trying to get someone to use their blinker, which is literally telling everyone around them what their intention is, is maddening.
