What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I figured I'd be drilling them out and re riveting. Wasn't sure if there was another option.

 

Unless you are surgically precise with a grinder.. drill it

Yes, drilling them out and riveting again is the solution. Good luck and be very careful not to drill through the top of the hood. Don't forget to wrap plenty of electrical tape around your drill bit so you don't drill too far.

 

Traded in my 8 month old 2016 4x2 4 cyl SR5 Taco for this 2017 TRD OR DCLB for my birthday. Watched tons of videos and debated about it. Couldn't be happier and can't wait to lift it with a nice wheel/tire upgrade.

Just got the fronts tinted (not shown). Still researching 3" lift kits, wheels and tires that will work in icy Oregon. Any suggestions?

yes, try to avoid using a bigger bit if possible. There are no guarantee's though. You will have to use your best judgement.
If you go to a bigger bit you will then have to widen the bracket hole and use the next rivet size up as well, so be careful and try to use the same size bit to remove if possible so you don't have to do extra work.

 

You only will need to drill deep enough to remove the head of the rivet. Then push the shaft of the rivet through the hole. No need to drill all the way through the hole.

No, use a bit the size of the rivet head. Light touch and just cut the rivet head off. No need to drill into the bracket at all.

What bed rails do you have? I like that you can still use the tonneau cover.

 

You can also use a sharp chisel and hammer to cut the head off. No drilling needed.

That works as well. All you need to do is get the top section of the rivet off. The rest will fall into the hole and be out of the way. It's only aluminum so shouldn't be too hard to get it off either way.
