Debating on selling my fiberwerxs 2nd Gen conversion for first gen tacomas. Has mini fenders. No grill or headlights yet. Have some lined up. No holes drilled or mounted. Just thrown up to see what it will look like.

I have considered this, but I think some who have converted to heim tierods have busted up their racks. From what I understand the tie rod is the wear item out of the steering area. If you make that bombproof, then other components would now be liable to failure.

Saw you're in Salt Lake. There is a spot called CV Axle Xpress on 1700 S and about 600 west? I took them my CVs, extended shafts, and new boots. They swapped them for $60 in a couple hours.

At speed I'm not sure you'd want a tie rod to bust, at least I wouldn't. I'll take a rack puking out fluid rather than risking losing control of one wheel potentially initiating a roll over. I'm running heims on the inner and the O.E. tie rods on the outer and I still busted a rack seal, either way I want to eventually make my own full heim steering.

Def an interesting perspective and has good merit for high speed apps. Do you mind sharing who you went with for your steering?

Ya I was only thinking of switching to hemi joints on the tie rods I have now. But in all honesty I dont know too much about tacoma steering so didn't know which was worse to break Thanks though

I have to admit if you are going wide open in the desert, I would consider heim like LS1 stated. I was thinking in regards to the crawler guys for some reason although this is an LT bs thread! They will tear up their racks while going 5-15 mph which is likely manageable to control at that speed if it went out.

Full heimed steering on my truck. Currently on my 5th rack and after KOH it is totally shot and puked whatever Lucas stop leak was left in the system onto the garage floor over the last month. Resi was bone dry when I checked last week. End of the day the Tacoma racks just can't handle hard desert use but like someone else said I would rather lose a rack than bend a tie rod at speed. Upgrades that I know of: Solo has been doing swaps to 07+ Tundra racks which they say is good up to a 37 or you could do a swing set like "bro destroys Tacoma in desert" did on his truck, forgot who built it tho but it's not cheap. My truck will sit until I can swap in a Tundra setup or it sells cuz I'm tired of replacing these things. If you do have to replace OEM Toyota is always best, the Napa or Autozone racks I've used have lasted less than 500 miles.

Most people want to leave the tie rods stock so they are the weak link in the steering and fail before the steering rack. Most heim steering upgrades do away with that.

Currently have the Camburg heim'd inner steering for their long travel kit.

Ah dammit and you are camburg LT too. I wonder if their steering might at all be transferable with a TC setup?

I did my front fenders and rear bedsides on the insides as well as the inner fender-wells and the entire bed, it makes washing a weekend of mud/sand off a lot easier. The fiberglass is pretty porous and dirt sticks to it pretty good if left bare. It will also help minimize the spiderweb cracks you get from rocks hitting the inside's of the fenders. I used a two part US Chemical bed-liner that is mixed and sprayed out of a Schutz gun. Looks pretty good IMO. Didn't take any pics of the fenders I guess, just have some of the bed.
