Hey guys I thought I'd ask the Tacoma community their advice about Ottawa.

I have a conditional job offer to move from Seattle to Ottawa for 2-5 years.

Anything you guys can tell me about Ottawa that I might need to consider? Pros? Cons?

It's close to Montreal, that is the only good thing. Other than that, boring place to be at and cold.

Can't provide any meaningful input other than it's an expensive town, and it's a tourist town as well as centre of our Federal Government - and it's fugging cold for half the year.

Conditional job offer, across the border from you? I take it that it's in a field or position that no Canadian can fill?

My barber has 2 grandkids living in Ottawa, her daughter is doing law diploma currently in Ottawa, and tells me horrible stories about how bad Ottawa kindergartens and schools compare to Toronto ones. Ottawa is a place for students who goes to university there and politicians mostly, and it is cold, like really.

Yeah it's a U.S government job. My housing will be paid so the expensive part isn't really a factor for me. I'm just more curious about it being a family friendly city.

Too many people, small streets, no parking, cold and small appartments, come to the other side of the river! Good food, good people, cheaper, cold too but hotter women to help with that!

I have been living here since 09'. its not that cold to be honest, we have the odd bad winter but lately we have had pretty mild winters, not compared to other parts of Ontario but mild non the less. its not as busy of a city as Toronto, what I like is that there's lots of lakes in the surrounding area to go fishing and lots of biking trails that go all over the city. Theres some decent beaches here too that are nice to go lounge in the sun, tho I wouldn't particularly go in the water haha in the heart of Ottawa, downtown, parking is minimal haha like others have said it is a government town so it is pricey. I don't find it boring at all but I guess it depends what your into. not sure how the school systems are for young ones since I don't have any kids.

I don't know about those off brand hi-lifts. Bent one of my hi-lifts and that was pretty scary. Was kinda my fault but still.

However those ammo cans fit nicely behind the rear seats with the plastic removed. Pretty happy with em.

I was jacking the tree out of the ground. Was too worried about the bottom I didn't realize I set the top of the jack up in a way that every time you jacked, the tree would push against it. The jack essentially bent itself. Nothing broke and it still works but I only use it for yard work and stuff now.

Could have returned it to princess auto but I think I had it for five year plus it was my fault. Don't want to be that guy. I have a new one for the truck now.

Thanks for the review. When you say pricey...are you talking about food or housing or what? As compared to what? I'm in Seattle and things are pretty pricey here as well.

Electrical/energy costs are getting stupid - particularly electrical. This is the land of a tax on a tax on a tax. Factor in depreciated value for the dollar as compared to the USA.. you might not be happy with COL as compared to what you call home.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Would you return home to Seattle in 2 to 5 years and are you happy where are you are now?

Yeah I would come back to Seattle when I was done. Seattle is nice but I sometimes think a change would be cool as well.
