    Imagine this:

The shareholders of Ford Motor Company decide to investigate Chrysler for problems in the performance of Dodge trucks. They find that sudden acceleration episodes happen and could very well be serious, and they suspect that Chrysler has been slow to fix any potential problems. The Ford shareholders then haul the Chrysler management before a tribunal at the Ford Headquarters in Dearborn, where they question Chrysler executives and punish them for any transgressions.

Sounds far-fetched? Sounds like it might be a little unethical to drag a competitor through the dirt under the guise of law? Ever heard of competitors doing this?

Substitute “GM” for “Ford”, and “Toyota” for “Chrysler” and remember that the US government and the United Autoworkers own General Motors.

I do have to admit that Toyota does deserve to get their hands slapped, as they did hide something that has the potential to seriously injure people, but you have to think... Is it really ethical to punish a company when you are a majority stock holder in its competition. Good work Obama

So how much tinfoil is in that hat of yours?

There is certainly a conflict of interest here, but that is taking it a little far. And don't kid yourself, there is probably some user error in there, as well.

Custom body work...boat trailer came of hitch, hit tailgate and Rammed stick thru lower valance while towing boat....hmmm, Maybe I should get a new boat?!?
So...does that mean the US Government should over-look the issues with Toyota? Give Toyota a pass, given their involvement with GM?

Think about what the big tobacco companies had to go through in regards to in-house memos stating (here's a big surprise) that cigarettes are bad for you...duh?

IMO Our government is a joke; however, it's the best out there! There's a warm and fuzzy feeling...

It's an interesting thought, but I don't think that the government is 'going after' toyota b/c the government thinks it's in the auto business and wants to take down a competitor.

    street racing is awesome!

No, the government shouldn't be involved at all. Why isn't GM being called before congress for the Cobalt fuel pump recall, or every other car maker for their various safety recalls? This whole situation stinks of political grandstanding. Does Toyota have a serious safety issue on their hands? Of course they do, but congress has better things to do than verbally castrate a highly respected company that just happens to be the major competition of the company they bailed out and took control of. Sorry for the rant. I'll get off my soap box now.:)
