Well it was 37k. 2017 TRD Sport DCLB is around 32k, but I really wanted all the extras of the premium package. So, about 37k before (California) taxes, title, & registration. 40k out the door. Ugh.

Interesting, ancient, but from a "reliable" source- outside organizations do visit TW. Whether they post or not, nobody can be sure, and everyone can believe what they want, and post accordingly

Indeed. Also the Ranger is also on the horizon. I'm glad there is more competition in the mid size market. It's a hot segment now.

All these issues will be addressed in the refresh or maybe even sooner.

This generation hasn't been around long enough for reliability data. Not sure how they can make a call on reliability. The 3rd generation has a quiet interior, rides nice, and has a well thought out interior and infotainment center. Not sure what car they were driving.

2017 Tacoma TRD OFF ROAD DBL CAB long bed just bought this Tueday: my driveway has a small slope and when I pull in and take foot off gas while still in drive the transmission does not hold it coasts backwards makes a small grinding sound tries to grab but then coast backwards. So, if I am at a red light on a sloped street like in Pittsburgh am I supposed to put the truck in park at a stop light?

Toyota does read the forum. Whether they give a shit or not is up for debate.

I think they gave a good reliability rating early on based on previous generations and then gave below average after they got some real world data.

The grinding noise is the hill assist using the abs.

If it's super hilly put your left foot on the brake and the right on the gas. Then as you let up the brake push down on the gas. Takes practice but is very useful when you off road too!

Problem I have with CR is they don't seem to weight the different areas to give a good sense if something is reliable. Iam sure many people complained about the tranny but this was corrected for the most part with the flash updates. I don't see tranny failures going on, yet they will give the tranny a black bubble to look at. Same goes with other areas, but overall I think the truck is reliable and everyone that owns them knows it.

I thought there were a few threads on exploding transmissions already....

My mistake, those were threads on exploding differentials. :D

I know this has nothing really to do with CR's Tacoma rating but this past week I had a 2015 Corolla with just over 12,000 miles on it as a rental car (wife and I vacationed in and around the Grand Canyon).

I have to say that Corolla was one big pile. It made more creaking noises than a Dodge Caliber with 120,000 miles on it plus the CVT was the worst I've encountered. Previously I drove a 2013 Nissan Altima, 2014 Honda Civic and 2015 Subaru Impreza with CVT's. The Nissan was almost as bad as the Corolla - key word almost....

The only good thing about the car is it didn't break down, the seating position was actually more upright than the Tacoma and the fuel economy was really good.

I have to say, Toyota's quality has certainly gone downhill. The Company CEO apologized for poor quality back in 2010 (when they focused on quantity over quality in an effort to become the worlds biggest auto manufacturer)

    http://www.dnaindia.com/money/repor...for-outside-experts-to-review-quality-1343958

Based upon that Corolla - he should apologize again....

So, I understand that on a Standard transmission, but no with an automatic.

Use the brake? I think that's what is supposed to stop the vehicle from moving.....
