This. My old dealership was in a used car co-op with a bunch of other dealers. They'd list each others used cars on their web sites, and move vehicles around constantly. When I traded my 2004 Corolla in, AutoNation Toyota didn't keep it - they resold it through their local Chevy dealership (the next day).

There was many reasons I didn't go for a '16. I envy the 3rd gen for fuel economy but I liked the 2nd Generation and the reliability that many people I knew had with one. Personally I liked the Colorado better then the 3rd Gen and if I didn't find my 2nd Gen used I would have went GM again.

This was not meant to be a 3rd gen bashing thread, it was an observation I wondered if was happening other places in the country. I do agree that I see more Tacoma's of every generation then I do Colorado and Canyon but I never see a used Colorado or Canyon of the 2nd Gen but see many 3rd gens in inventories. You make a good point with the size.

And just as capable as a Tacoma for 99.99% of most owners applications. But hey it's a unibody

OP lost credibility when he suggested he'd buy a GM/Colorado over a new Tacoma.

Test drive a 2017 Colorado z71 before I bought my 2017 taco to give it the benefit of the doubt.
I liked the ride of the Colorado as it has better road manners and liked the Chevy mylink system but I wasn't a fan of the dashboard, the front skirt at the bottom of the bumper which doesn't make it a great off roading truck. The ZR2 looks pretty sick but it costs way more than I want to spend on a midsize truck.
Something about the exterior of the Colorado makes it look like a Chevy equinox and not like a real truck. GM has done a great job with the Colorado and canyon but I still prefer the looks and off road capabilities of the TRD models better even though the Colorado z71 was being offered to me at $31,750 versus $34,830 for what I paid for my TRD off road. That's why I went with my 2017 TRD off road and I don't regret my decision at all.

Never understood the hatred for 3rd gens, every new model has its issues and flaws in its first couple of years of production. At the end of the day, it's a TACOMA and that's why we're all here!

:rofl::rofl:I have a picture in my head on how this all went down. I caught flack from one of my buddies who basically said the same thing. That's when I pointed out that his beloved Dodge truck was built in Mexico (my Tacoma was built in the US) and was owned by an Italian company. He doesn't really bring it up any more for some reason.

I test drove 3 different 2015 Canyons. Each had something broken on it; the power seat, door trim, split bed weld. Quality was dreadful. No issues with my 2016 in 15 months. Just saying.

I bought a 2005 Tacoma when they first came out, first year of 2nd gen's and never had any issues other than the spiral cable air bag recall. Put over 150k mi. on it before I upgraded to a 2008 4x4 v6 AT. The 2016 just seems to have a larger number of issues than I would have ever expected based on my experience with the 2005.

In general I do agree on never buying the first year of production though, as my dad bought a '97 A4 2.8 Quattro and had a million issues, and he got the Mini Cooper S when in the first year of production - again he had a million issues with it.

Are they now? I don't see any Chinese assembly plants listed. Most of the GM engines are made for the US market are made in MI, NY, or OH.

Careful with that one, he's neck deep in "justify my purchase" emotional trauma.

Tacoma is still well above the Chevy twins in sales. Chevy/GMC twins combined sales are 146,174 for 2016. Tacoma alone is 191,631 for 2016.

Friend of mine just traded his 2016 Tacoma Limited for a decked out 2017 Tundra. I was amazed the prices are not that far apart new. He's a doctor and can afford whatever he wants. Tacoma just wasn't doing it for him I guess. His wife hated the Tacoma so that maybe had something to do with it.

I'm keeping my '05 TRD OR that I bought new, until its frame rots out. Or mine does.
