The relay is a fine solution... but it's admittedly more circuit than the diode route.

 

It seems that you're taking my post out of context. No relay or diode needed for a SPDT switch based backup-cam-anytime setup.

 

This sounds like a future mod for me.

 

You pulled the +12v off of pin 1 of the same 28 pin harness correct? Just wondering why in the various places I have seen the backup anytime mod discussed that is not brought up. Seems that in the case of purchasing this harness (just ordered) that would be ideal. I realize you probably wouldn't want to actually power anything with that as a source, but it would probably be sufficient for a backlit SPDT switch. I'm debating even bothering to illuminate the generic switch I purchased, i doubt the blue matches anyway.

 

Should be fine as long as its just used as signal and not powering anything from it. I never mentioned it in my thread because I didnt want to be blamed for someone toasting a circuit in their HU.

 

Probably not mentioned for the exact reason @jshsltr mentions; people trying to power stuff from a signaling line. While a single LED may very well work, I prefer to play it safe and just use a signaling line for signaling. As I used an unlighted SPDT round rocker switch it didn't matter to me.

I hooked up my switch to override the Nav feature. I am trying to figure out when the vehicle is off, the switch light(blue) stays on. Did I hook something up wrong? As for the override that works.

 

You hooked it up to a +12v instead if 12v ignition. It can also be tapped into the dash illumination circuit to allow dimming.

 

Ordered one of these for my front camera mod.

 

I used one of these harnesses and did the AV input mod on it. That works fine but now my parking brake light will not go out. I removed the harness and now its fine. Is there a full pinout for this harness? I should have checked it before I made the mods... But I did just order another one to have a spare. Thanks

 

Link me the mod you did or explain the connections you made, and ill see if i can find a cause. The only pinout i have is shown in a previous post in this thread I think.

 

I did the AV input mod with shorting together of four wires to enable the new option on the Audio Source Screen. I did this as another option for the front camera but ran into the vehicle speed sensor cutout issue.

Ok I found on the stereo pinout page https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-stereo-wiring-diagram.429679/ that pin 15 is in fact for the parking brake. I left it shorted out but cut the wire on the vehicle side of the harness. This fixed the problem and now I have video from my front camera on the AV input line. I also cut the vehicle speed sensor wire and while I get video in motion I have lost some functionality of the GPS. It does not do turn by turn directions. I will use my new harness to make the full switching camera mod as while the front camera is cool it removes the use of the radio while AV in is selected.

 

Josh, I just ordered one of the harnesses, and wanted to make sure I read correctly that the diode for the backup camera mod is included with the harnesses now? Thanks, looking forward to making this same mod for about 1/20 of what it cost to do on my old Jeep.

 

FYI if you use a SPDT switch instead of SPST, no diode is needed.
