What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Did not realize you were gonna be around that long. Cool.

 

Spring break!

 

Anybody chopped their exhaust after/above the axle? Just trying to get rid of that ugly exhaust hanging back there

 

That about sums it up!

 

I've heard of people doing it but someone mentioned moisture issues but I don't think it'd be a problem.

 

Thought about doing a muffler but I don't want it to drone going down the road and I like it being quiet lol

 

I was thinking the biggest magnafloe muffler and a 4" tip dumped but like I said, don't want it to sound bad or anything

 

I heard a 3.4 with no cats and muffler and it sounded nice and deep. But I'm not cutting the cats out

 

Still have a hard time with V6 exhaust and finding the right combo of parts to make it nice. But that's the V8 in me talking

 

I mean I have a built big block going in another truck. I can get all my sound from it. And it won't sound ricey at all lol

 

Yea i just used a wrench to make it longer. Old mechanic trick.

Your Upper ball joints say it all. Its too much.

I dumped my stock muffler just over the axle. Usually have to do something when you put in aftermarket leaf packs.

That said, 4'' tip is ridiculous and a waste. 3'' is fine.

I'll also warn you that dumping the exhaust with an aftermarket muffler will increase cab noise. If you want it nice but not super annoying pipe it all the way out. You'll have to get custom exhaust for that but i think it is worth it.

 

I'll just "settle" for a nice supercharger whine when the time comes.

 

Oh yeah I knew I'd have to take it to a shop and all. Only reason for a 4" tip was the attempt to make it sound a tad deeper

 

So, got the UltraGauge in today (yesterday for non night shifters ) and after looking and researching, realized the '01 doesnt have the driver A-pillar handle... My ram mount pieces will be here soon so either I drill out the blank piece or pick up a handle from an 02-04 I'm guessing? Camelback parts website is OOC right now so checking here if someone randomly has a link or part number.

 

I have a 3'' tip and a 14'' magnaflow on Frank and it is beastly. Sounds great at idle and low rpms.

Nothing you do will make it sound "deeper" at the higher rpms. But the magnaflow won't sound tenorish or anything stupid. But its not V8..its a V6 haha but still is nice. Mine sounds better at 4000rpm then my dads 2nd gen 4.0l v6..

Full 3'' exhaust would drop the sound a lot. But not worth it unless you have turbo really..

 

Id just cut it. Bolt hole should be there. Be easy to pull the piece to check. simple hole to drill..

 

From looking online, the bolt hole is there, or should be. But adding the handle isn't too pricey from reading old threads and actually useful (says the guy who just realized it wan't even there).

But I'll probably just drill it out. Less obstruction over there.

 

It rarely sees high RPMs so that's cool lol I was thinking about the 18" magnaflow

 

be a cleaner install i think. Id be fine if mine disappeared..removed mine from Frank after it broke my hand.

The 18'' is great. Not as loud but loud enough. Sounds awesome too.

The 18'' is good for you to hear a difference and the occasional by stander...

The 14''....EVERYONE is going to hear...all the time. haha

11''...idk why you'd want your truck that loud..over compensation i guess ha

 

Probably how I'll end up doing it. More important things to buy for now. I guess I could just throw a grommet in there to clean it up if needed.
