Bought a 4Runner Trail Edition over a 3rd Gen

You guys are funny... how are you comparing an SUV to a pick up truck? Comparing a 4Runner to a Tacoma is like comparing the GMC Sierra pick up truck to a GMC Yukon. It's just stupid. That is why I said in my last post just move this to the 4runner forum because based on the first post that is where it belongs.

 

I didn't trade in my Tacoma, but that was basically the deal I got on a new SR5 4Runner for my wife. I was shocked it was cheaper than my truck. I really like the 4Runner, but I rarely get to drive it beyond weekends. The 5th Gen are really sharp, really comfy cars. By me, they had about 40 different last model year old rental trade ins (Ski weekend rentals), and the new one with the "Keep it wild" package (nav, running boards, and a few other things) were basically $500 more new.

I'd have loved a TRDPro, mostly for the orange to match mine, but honestly couldn't justify anything more than the SR5. I don't use any of the electronic "toys" on my truck, even.

 

You could have bought a dirt cheap Salvage 3rd gen and bought and installed a used 4Runner Engine for less than 30k.

 

That's not a stupid comparison, A yukon is basically a sierra with a closed in bed, same as the 4runner & Tacoma comparison. Now if the 4runner went unibody then yes they wouldn't be very comparable.

I cross shopped a tacoma and a 4runner, so they are very comparable, and people might be looking in these forums for a comparison/opinions such as those contained within this thread.

 

We got both this year. Looking forward to all the mods then hiting the trails. That's when I will Compare. Putting a lot of steel on the 4R I hope it still rides good. The fox shocks seem a bit soft.

I went from tacoma to 4 runner and never looked back....mostly because no bed.

The black "leather" with red stitching is really sharp. Leather caries through to the door panels, rear seas recline. I like how the trail/trd do not have any silver interior trim pieces like the sr5 or wood grain like the limited.

You also get separate knobs for crawl and mts. Rear seats fold flat also, lots of room for sleeping if you're into that.

Since this is a 4runner thread, does anyone know if the front shocks off a 3rd gen taco fit a brand new 4runner? Would Ted PRO shocks lift one of those the same 1" it supposedly does for tacomas?

 

They will physically fit, but they are different pn, I assume valving is different do to weight.

 

Hard to beat having a PRO in both models! ....well maybe if you had a PRO Tundra instead the Taco Nice choices bro. The PRO Cement 4R isn't available anymore here in Hawaii. Completely sold out through 2018

 

I just picked up a 16' T4R to complement my Taco. I really like it. Pretty solid vehicle. It is taking a little to get used to the brakes, and the nose dive is kind of strange. I'm thinking 2" lift and some 275's or 285's, 6112's and 5160's and it should be good to go. The dual VVTI feels like a V8 in my opinion and I got 18mpg on cruise at 85mph for roughly 4hrs. The transmission shifts very nice as well (like a truck).

I feel like I got a good deal. There are not many T4R's on the lots. I paid 33.1K for a Toyota Certified MGM 16' SR5 Premium with 20k miles. The thing is cleaner than a new car, and I got 75K service. BlueBook was 38.2K
