Thanks, don't know how I skipped over that link where you posted it earlier. So sounds like I either go for the $500 "fix" OR I rebuild the slave cylinder. Everyone is so firm on their opinion idk which is better besides the cost factor. :notsure:

At the very minimum, do the steel sleeve kit. The aluminum quill will thank you.

Agree. As URD says "Over time as the clutch goes threw it normal wear cycle that air gap between the bearing face and release fingers can get used up and the fingers can start making intermittent contact again with the bearing and can start that squeak again." so their $5OO is the partial fix or do mine which fixes it forever.

You still have angular wear load on the quill. The hydro "Fix-U" alleviates that.

I'm not confident enough to be working on the tranny myself, I'd have to take it to someone to put in the kit if I went that route.

The sc rebuild I could definitely do, I've looked at it before when I was trying to diagnose the problem. The hard part looked like getting the hard line on and off w/o bending a king into it

This just never ends. The reason there's wear on the quill is that the TOB flops around because it's unsupported. Preloading it stops the wobble and the wear. The URD TOB doesn't fix it as it has no contact for a while and then as the clutch wears you once again get the low load contact. That's why they have the weasel words in their write up.

To the objective reader of this forum, this just never stops. Watch this for some humour and to understand what ignoring the obvious looks like

What are you talking about? Due to the T56 swap (offered by URD) and the simple operation of the GM TOB, it was obvious to use that style, for URD. The clutch depresses the TOB "near" to full compression. The TOB continually rides the face of the springs. Depressed or not. As the clutch disk wears, and material thickness is lost, and the P.P. springs move over the time of that wear, the spring behind the TOB keeps that continual pressure against the P.P. springs. Thus making it "self adjusting". Eliminating the "low load contact you describe."

I have the equivalent GM TOB in my T56, in my Tacoma.

Torspd, we both agree (although reading your post it may not sound like it). Once again I quote the URD write up "Over time as the clutch goes threw it normal wear cycle that air gap between the bearing face and release fingers can get used up and the fingers can start making intermittent contact again with the bearing and can start that squeak again." If that's the way they build it then they don't understand how a clutch works. Actually if you think about it, as you say, if at full extension the SC doesn't contact the clutch fingers then how the hell does this work in the first place because the SC is already at full extension? The main reason I object to what URD say is they're reinforcing the erroneous idea that the TOB can't be in continuous contact with the PP. The non-contact BS has been the biggest source of debate on this topic.

Subbed. My TOB is wiggling around, 84k miles. On the edge of: just replace everything with the URD fix or deal with it. Sure is pissing me off...

Hey guys- I have read a lot of posts on Tacomaworld about this TOB issue and the potential that the quill could break.
Has anyone ever heard of one breaking? I can't seem to find any instances of the quill actually failing- only that the chirp is super annoying.
My '06 has had the chirp for the last 4 years now and I just hit 120k miles.

I've never actually heard/read of one failing on here, just a lot of complaints about the dreaded TOB chirp (which I have as well). I replaced my "old" clutch simply because the TOB chirp was driving me nuts and I was afraid of catastrophic failure, only to have the damn thing start chirping again 5k miles after I got a new clutch put in. So now I just live with it.

mine is super weird it only makes noise sometimes, I know I'm going to need to replace the clutch eventually so hopefully that'll fix it.

Mine has been randomly chirping since 35k, it has 50k on it now and not much has changed (knock on wood) I do plan to go with one of the "fixes" in the future. The URD one with the GM parts looks interesting but it gives me diarrhea when I think about having to cut off the quill from my shiny truck x_x

The slave cylinder spring change I recommend is best done sooner than later. That chirping is wear and damage so the longer you leave it the bigger the problem you've have.
