i have a question. i have a gas station near me that sells ethanol free gas. its octane 100. is it okay to use in the 5vzfe? its like 9 bucks a gallon so i would not buy this all the time. i kinda want to try it though, ha. its called VP racing. is this just for dirt bikes and ATVs?upload_2017-3-24_17-17-26.jpg

Yes. Sorry. I had to :(. I honestly don't know what would happen with 100 octane. Probably nothing.
Ethanol is fine for our trucks.

I meant that unless you have a high compression engine or forced induction then premium fuel is just a waste of money and at high altitude may rob you of more power. Only put premium fuels in vehicles that require it, as far as fuel cleanliness is concerned they're all the same and must conform to standards.

This argument is as old as time and it all stems from fuel being called premium (it doesn't mean better or cleaner) all it means is that the octane is higher which helps it avoid predetonation in high compression situations.

I responded to the guy who asked wat? Wasn't a particularly long or arduous read. Did I miss something?

if all gas companies are held to the same standard then that would mean that a shitty gas station like thrifty or valero here is CA has the same quality as shell or chevron??

Oh well that stuff would be interesting at sea level on our relatively low compression engines. Spark timing would go hard core advanced trying to figure that shit out. Lose MPG in the long run.

Standards yes. But Name brand has more detergents that supposedly are better for the engine.

im gunna do some research on this. most forums have anecdotal evidence which doesnt give definitive answers. im gunna look for empiracal evidence. i think you are probably right but i hear contradicting viewpoints.

my .02¢. a higher octane can extend the life of your engine IF and ONLY IF your engine is so dilapidated that putting a higher octane actually makes a difference.

i honestly think if your engine is benefiting from a higher octane, you really need to get it the f*#$ to a shop and get it a serious tune up.

i am going to call my mechanic and ask what gas i should use. i had some water dripping out of my exhaust and i didnt know what was going on, so i asked him if something is wrong. he said, the gas being sold today isnt really for the 1st gens. probably just gunna stick with shell, chevron, or have my roommate fill up my truck from his work. (navy base 1 block away.) for the cheappppy
