Your best Synthetic Oil

Just wondering if there is a bit of a consensus on which synthetic oil performs best in the tacoma.

so is it a bad idea to switch brands of synthetic at 60k?

 

I dont think its really harmful to switch brands of synthetic as long as you remain synthetic. Although different brands use different additives, they pretty much all get the job done.

Since I started using synthetic, I have run, Valvoline Synpower, Castrol Syntec, Mobil 1 and Royal Purple. So far I think the Royal Purple has performed the best, but they all were about pretty close.

 

I just switched to synthetic and used valvoline synthetic got it for $14 couldn't pass it up.

 

I have always used Quaker State 5w30

Runs good with my truck.
Ive heard castrol, mobil and quakerstate are pretty good

 

I've been using Venom Synthetic by Hicks Oils for about 4 years now. Have had great luck with it and it only costs 39.00 for oil/lube/filter at my local garage. The mechanic showed me the Venom specs compared with M1 and I've stuck with it since instead of paying 65.00 for the M1.

 

I'm a rep. for Texas Refinery Corp and was offended that our "Pro-Spec" engine oil wasn't on the list (just kidding, I know people don't know about it because our products aren't sold retail, and TRC doesn't advertise). They, essentially, produce their lubricants for heavy equipment and machinery.

I use our Pro-Spec oil in my '97 Tacoma and get 9,500 - 10,000 miles between changes. I've determined that this is the appropriate drain interval by utilizing oil analyzing.

When my mechanic and I removed the valve cover to replace the tube gaskets, he couldn't believe how clean the cam shafts were. Inside the valve cover at some parts, you could still the original color of the aluminum.

Texas Refinery's engine oil is a synthetic blend. It's a blend of group II and group III base stocks. These base stocks then get put through a thorough refining process. Then they add a comprehensive additive package, resulting in a TBN of 15+ This is the highest TBN of any engine oil. In addition, the chemistry of this TBN has sustained release. This means that it gets released over a long period of time.

I'm very happy with it and feel proud to represent them.

Which blend is it I'm at the site and and there are different types of Pro Spec, was curious which one? Any help is appreciated.

 

Pennzoil Platinum used to be about $3 cheaper per jug than Mobil 1 at my local Wally World, but now it's only .50 cheaper. Mobil is a great oil as is Pennzoil Platinum. I'm expecting Pennzoil to drop the price on the Platinum now that they realesd Pennzoil Ultra. What's next??? Pennzoil Epic??? Pennzoil Supreme??

I've been running Mobil 1 in my '97 Tacoma since the first week I brought it home new. Thought about trying Amsoil a couple times, but have never done it.
