I would tell them that you will give the local newspaper a call with the TSB. More bad publicity would ruin the stealership.

A little update on my issue with the transmission. I took my truck in yesterday at lunch. I was quickly told by the snappy female service advisor that due to all the recall work they could not look at my truck for at least another week. I snapped back well that is not my problem. I got in my truck and left. I promptly called Toyota corporate and was on hold for 30 minutes never speaking to anyone. I hung up and called teh dealer and ask to speak to a customer service rep, I was transferred to some guys voicemail where I left my 2 cents worth to him.

Fast forward, last night at about 7 PM local time the service manager at the dealership called me. He said he looked up my trucks history, didn't take long it is 3 months old and 4400 miles on it. I had the transmission TSB done on Jan. 7th, 2010. he said he noticed on the paperwork the technician did perform the download but did not clear the history on the truck. so he thinks that the truck has reverted back to its old habits. Once the download is in it is there but the truck will flash off the history. Kinda makes sense because the truck drove great for a day or two then started going crazy again. It is not doing the slow speed downshift anymore but the rest of the craziness is back. So they are to clear the history and check the transmission fluid level. If all that is okay and the truck continues to act crazy they will have to install a new transmission!! The last part has me fuming. If this truck truely needs a transmission Toyota is in for a healluva a time with me on this. Totally unacceptable and I will not accept that.

just got my 09 access cab back yesterday and i did notice that this is no more engine racing into 1st gear on slow turns but i am still not in love with the transmission. this is my first automatic vehicle and must say, it will be my last.

i also had issues with my brakes and they corrected (under warranty) both the front and back as they were both binding. can someone explain what 'binding' is?

So, this morning I took my '10 dbl cad trd sport in for an appointment to have the TSB done. Both times (on the phone and in person this morning) they weren't really sure what I was talkin about, but they said they would take a look at it. About an hour later, they said they performed the tsb and I was out the door. I was kinda surprised about how smooth that went. But when I drove home, the engine still revved accelerating from a slow creep. No more engine revving around a turn from 1-2, so I guess I can say that I'm happy with it because it is an improvement.

Sounds like your truck is doing what mine did after the TSB. If this is normal then don't expect this transmission to last over 100k miles because slipping partly between gears results in heat and heat kills a transmission over the long haul. I have noticed the transmission pan on this truck is a lot hotter under use than my '02 tacoma which had a TRD cooler on it. I have read the entire TIS download procedure and I can see how an un-qualified in-experienced tech could screw this up very easily. The TIS procedure is 23 pages long. with a lot of do's and don'ts. I still throw the BS flag on this transmission design. We'll see they should be coming to pick me up in about 30 more minutes. They requested the truck for all of this morning.

Alright just got back from picking up my truck. Verdict is, it was 1/2 quart low of transmission fluid and had DTC error codes in the history which were erased/deleted. The creation of these codes is normal when you access the ECM/PCM as I have read and understand it. The truck seems to shift okay. I only drove it 5 miles back to work so no real test yet that will come on the way home this afternoon. It still feels a little slippery into 3rd like before but not as bad before the service. I noticed the transmission pan was warm not hot like before again not scientific but typically is was much hotter on this short drive. The drive home will tell me more. I just hope they used proper procedure to actually check the fluid level:rolleyes: Service manager told me they do not charge for this so if in the future if I need it checked feel free to come by.

Time will tell if this is indeed the fix, my fingers are crossed.

Per the TSB only certain '10 models are affected.

The TSB indicates that production before

    3TMLU4EN0AM041868

is eligible for the TSB. What are the relevant digits to determine this. My VIN is

    3TMLU4ENXAM042610.

Is it only the last five digits that are relevant or are the prior digits significant?

No, only '09 and '10 model years.

It would seem that you are past the production number that is the cutoff for the TSB but if you are having the issue take it in to the dealer.

I have been driving my '09 Access Cab for two weeks since the TSB was performed and the low gear shifting problems appears solved.
After reading the crap so many of you are going through with the Toyota service departments, I did not have high hopes. But I called Norm Wagner Toyota (Central MA) and got an appointment for the next evening. When I arrived, I gave a copy of the TSB to the "check-in" mechanic, told him this is what I wanted done, and he forwarded my request to the service tech. Approx 35 minutes later I was driving off with a correctly functioning transmission. The tech also let me know he reset the transmission's memory, so I should not drive erratically for the next few days while it re-learns my driving habits.

Overall, a plesant experience, and I didn't even buy the vehicle from this dealer.

A few days to re-learn your driving habits, huh? When I took mine in for an oil change I had a copy of the TSB and asked about it. I was told it takes 10000-15000 miles to learn my habits! I don't think my guy wanted to deal with it! What do you think?

LOL! Unlike Toyota:rolleyes:, you obviously gotta a lotta bad habits! :p

What's really interesting are the dramatic differences
in dealer attitude and behavior when dealing with legitimate customer concerns.

Some are great ..... some just suck

You're in like Flynn ... or outta luck !

Removed that stupid "Sport Bumper Trim"
Given that there are 32 pages of this, I've been reading fro a while and cannot find my answer...

Is this also for a 2008 DC Sport? My VDS matches and my truck has a weird way of revving high before shifts at times and rough downshifts.

    Thanks in advance.

Currently the TSB only addresses '09 and some '10 model year trucks. If you have an issue take your vehicle to a dealer and see if the issue can be resolved.
