Clutch cancel switch

Am I hurting anything if I use the clutch cancel switch to start the truck?I read the manual and it states not to use it for normal engine starting. I used it a couple of times to warm the truck up in the morning.

They recommend not as a safety precaution I'm sure. 'Cause someone's gonna forget to put it in neutral.

 

Nope, I do the same thing all the time. Just check to make sure it is in neutral first!

 

Driven manual Toyotas for several hundred thousand miles and always used clutch start cancel when cranking the truck from outside the vehicle. As mentioned, just make sure and confirm neutral before you do it.

One more question. Do you leave your in neutral or first gear when parked?

 

1st usually without the brake set... need to change that habit.

 

In gear only when on steep hills.

But I have a habit of using clutch start cancel as well, so i can be sure daily that I don't have to check or worry about being in gear.

 

Some drum brakes use reverse to set the brake adjuster, Others use the ebrake to set them.

I have no idea how toyota does it on these Gen 3's

If you use it, cruise does not work.

 

the clutch start cancel comes extremely handy if you are wheeling and stall your truck right in the middle of a climb.

shawnMc I believe that they are talking about using the button to start the truck in neutral without getting into the truck.

 

If you start the truck with clutch cancel, the cruise control does not function for that drive.

 

ALWAYS put it in either 1st or reverse depending on the grade. Seriously, there's NO valid argument for not parking in gear aside from laziness or ignorance.

Or just test your luck without it and risk finding that your truck had slowly creeped its way out of a parking spot.

Never understood why so many people with auto transmissions don't use the parking brake and so many people with manual transmissions refuse to keep it in gear.

Good. Wasn't trying to come off a certain way, I just learned this lesson the hard way many years back.

05 Honda S2000, parked in neutral in a spot with a very slight incline. Came back and my car was halfway backed out of the spot. Could have been WAY worse and rolled out into traffic.

 

Pretty sure mine does. I'll confirm tomorrow.

 

I always leave my vehicles in gear when parked.
