1st POST! looks like a great forum. Appreciate any help!!!
I am looking to buy a used Tacoma. This will be my 1st Toyota, i had a V8 Dakota for 14 years that I bought new and put 165K miles on it (mostly trouble-free, noting major). I have pretty much narrowed it down to 2 "Tacos" as of now:

    '15 TRD SPORT w/ 36K miles (comes w/ 100k drivetrain warranty) - asking $26,999
    '16 SR5 w/ 20K miles (toyota certified) - asking $29,995

Both are silver, crew cab, 4x4, V6 & come with Tow Package
    So, My questions are:
Is there a noticeable difference MPG's from the '15 to '16? My commute is 60 miles/day, 99% highway.
Durability & dependability are these the same?
Which do you think would hold its value best if I was to trade it w/in 3 years? (may be getting shorter commute and will probably go full-size - unless i fall in Taco-Love)

Ask for a 24 hour eval of each with at least 100 mile allowance.

Only you can decide if you like the looks/tech/driving difference of the newer model.

I would suggest that the $3k pricing gap isn't quite large enough, but it's close. Call a CU and ask what the loan value is on each. That's what a vehicle is actually 'worth'.

And of course those 'asking' prices are jacked to 'give' a buyer more for their steaming pile than it's really worth. So don't forget to negotiate, using what you learn from the CU call as a foundation.

Edit: Please note my comments were neutral in nature, pointing more to how to decide that what your decision would be. You'll get strong opinions for both models. And we all know what opinions are like.

One persons reasons for liking/disliking a vehicle are quite different than anothers. The majority here look down their nose at my lowly truck, but it's perfect for how I use the truck.

So, I'd take the opinions, experiences and antedotal evidence with a grain of salt, examine each vehicle thouroughly, get that long test use, and decide from there.

BTW, you *may* find more negotiating room in the '16 than the '15. Depends on your location and the truck fans in the area. There is a niche looking for last year low mile 2nd gens.

I'd assume the 15 would be the better choice. Performs the same, possibly more reliable.

I only bought new over used because new was cheaper in my area.

REALLY? holy Sh!t (can we curse here? hahah)

Both of these are used and NEW the '17's seem to be going for $32,500 for SR5, crewcab, V6, 4x4, tow.
I am trying to keep it under $30K as possible

Cause it has a skewp baw

Jk, I like the body style of the '15 more than the 16' and I would imagine the '15 would hold its value a little better because of the turd gens reviews. Here at the dealership we have about 10 used tacomas for sale. 8 of them are turd gens. People trading them in like crazy.

Yea under 30 was my goal too. I got quoted for a 15 TRD TX Pro advertised for 31,500. They offered it to me out the door for 40k. I laughed and left.

32500 is what my TRD Offroad cost me

I have no Preference for the look of 1 vs the other. Someone just told me the '16 will hold a 4x8 sheet in the bed tho!
What seems to be the complaints w/ the new style? Maybe I will take the time to go drive both then. I notice the "skewps" seem to command a higher price even when that scoop is the only difference. What dealership/area are you at? I am in Central MA

I'd go for the '15 also. They're having lots of issues with the third gens...

Damn. I am headed to look at the '15 TRD now. This dealer includes a 5yr/100k drivetrain warranty but they also own a Toyota dealership and said it may be possible to get a "toyota Certified" warranty AT ADDITIONAL COST, so I will have to see what that is and if its worth it.

I would want to know why the 16 was traded in, what is it's maintenance record? Yes some third gens are having issues, but I would not lump them all together. If you don't mind the styling, I would see what you can knock off the price on the 15 and go for that, I believe the bed sizes are the same if the cabs are the same.

    Really like the 2015 TRD.
Came to a good deal on price & trade-in.
    Waiting on the financial now.
Trying to get best rate possible.

Hopefully will be around this forum more often!
