Wonder if he upgraded rear diff? Looks like he has a Sport rather than OR. Wonder if larger OR rear diff would have handled it better?

MADSTEEZE profile lists TRD Sport. The second video is an OR it appears.

Ok. The first video threw me off with the tire rack in the bed, etc..., the second didn't have it. Just curious as the profile lists Sport, but video shows OR.

    Mostly stuff I built.
That break was caused by shock load on the gears. Rotating under heavy torque then dead stop. This is a pretty common thing when crawling. There are about 5-6 sets of gears under my tool box in my garage that shared the same fate. I carry a spare third member in the tool box on my crawler just for this reason.

Also just to add this sounds more like a ring and pinion failure than a differential failure. Yes there is a difference for the newer members who have never dug in that deep. Ring and pinion drive the carrier the differential gears are inside the carrier and allow the left and right wheels to move at different speeds. That is unless you have a mechanical locker (Detroit, Grizzly, Aussie ect) or a spool in the third member.

When climbing obstructions you don't want wheel spin. Especially hoping free wheel spin abruptly stopped by the ground or rocks. That's a great way to break drive shafts, u joints, rear diffs. I am surprised that the u joints didn't go first. Usually the first thing to go is the weakest link in the drive line. The diff should not be going first.

Look up videos on breaking drive lines. You will see to much throttle, hopping, over inflated tires, unprepared rigs. All know ND of noob mistakes

No problem. I don't wheel my Tacoma to much. My crawler now that's another story.
