Great. Thanks. My dealer shop said I never have to change any transmission or transfer case or differentials fluids and didn't know about how many grease fittings if any were on my driveshafts and told me he feels all grease is the same. He said if I was very finicky I could change those fluids at 90,000 miles.

He is their master mechanic! The kids on the line in the shop are just that. Kids.

I've seen videos and a great post here on this site under lubrication that proves other than what that Toyota master mechanic said. I'd recommend changing those fluids more regularly. Perhaps start at 10,000 or now asap then maybe I'd guess every 25 to 30,000 miles. Just my gut guess. But not never or even as long as 90,000 miles! Owners manual maintenance guide doesn't list any need to change these fluids ever. Only grease propeller shaft at 15,000 miles. I just had dealer grease that now at 11,300. Mechanic said there were only three zerks on mine. The other two were factory sealed. When it warms up I'll go under and look. Thanks for knowledgeable advice. Dannyblues

Toyota switched the u-joints over around late March, maybe early April of 2016. If you bought yours then or later, you don't have zerks on the rear u-joints.

Honestly they are basically only lubricants and not really cleaners like ATF and engine oil
I am doing mine at 40k and then again at 100k
Mine is also a 15 and not a 3rd gen--some stuff might have changed

I would gamble on that. Depending on the amount of the check you wrote. I bet it will work out and you will absolutely love it.

I located the only pure gas supplier near me anywhere very close by in my town. They will call me back Monday. However all they sell is 112 octane. I think it may be just a bit high for my stock 3.5 liter TRD ???? But if I could buy a few gallons and blend it with pump gas maybe it would burn in my modified 88 Harley Davisvision superglide?

I once added a half tank of 105 octane in my bike before it was fully modified and it bucked and choked until I cracked the throttle at 80 mph and pulled a small wheelie before it blasted off. Never did that again. Dannyblues

Thanks. I bought my 2016 TRD sport 4 x4 in early July 2016. Not sure of date of manufacture. Maybe that's on a nameplate on the front door sill. Or maybe the VIN will indicate it?

Toyota mechanic greased my driveshaft and told me mine had three zerks. Other two were sealed at the factory. I'll know myself when I crawl under it when it warms up here in northwestern Connecticut where we still have melting snow on the ground. In another month or so hopefully it will be warm enough. Heard long distance forecast for northeast including New England where I live is for a very unusually hot May. Hope so. I'm opening the pool first week in may. Dannyblues

No lube on the rear! That means the driveshaft falls out just about the time your warranty expires. I'm glad I bought the extended six year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. Dannyblues

I just bought your truck. I have to say, I've gotten more compliments on the magnetic gray than I thought I would. It looks fantastic.

Absolutely!!! At first I wanted fire engine red and constantly bugged the salesman about it. He assured me that the 2016 TRD came in that color until a manager told him he was wrong. The red was a dark metallic I didn't care for so I requested black then grey then bright silver as manuals are hard to come by. I really liked the color you chose. It's really classy!!!! My back TRD is really hot looking. ( but hard to keep clean! ). At first I wanted a red then white truck but didn't care for the refrigerator white that just didn't match the accent stuff. The other day I saw my first Lincoln truck. Wow! It was a creamy white with all matching accents. Only second white truck with appropriate trim that really was a beauty. I've always owned fire engine red or black cars, mostly little jap hot rods, and have had black vehicles for over 21 years so I was hoping for something different but the black manual came and I was knocked out. I couldn't believe it was mine. I never paid so much for a car and this is my first ever truck st 67 years old. Cost more than my first house in 1978! Best of luck with that new Tacoma. It's a great color. Makes you feel like you need to dress up to drive it. Real class. Dannyblues

Maybe a stupid question but what kind of hand pump do you guys use to refill trannys and diffs and transfer cases? I only now have a bulb type syphon hose I use to empty fuel from my yard equipment. I guess it could be reversed to suck up and pump in gear fluids etc or maybe I'll have to buy a hand pump. Saw many on Amazon from about $14 up to $80 plus. Any suggestions? Dannyblues

Your local Auto store should have a hand pump. I wanna say I bought one for $10 recently.

Also a hot tip for those changing hard to reach fluids, found this out from my fab guy when we were changing diff fluids, if you get a bucket of hot water and put the containers of oil in it to preheat before you start filling, it makes things soooo much faster and easier.

GREAT and simple tip. I just hit myself in the forehead and went "Daaahhhh ". Why didn't I think of that. I may have as I do that when adding freon to my old 87 Chevy Nova AC that has a small leak at the compressor that I don't want to pay to replace. It was brand new when I inherited the car from my mom that died. So as long as I keep it with at least some residual freon pressure in it the system won't get contaminated with air. I top it off at the beginning of summer and then in the fall when I store it

Good enough for me then. I can verify that I get at least 1 mpg more with toptier shell premium 93 and other toptier premium fuels. Plus I'm assured of a cleaner running engine with less repairs needed down the road.

My current truck is a '99 S10 2.2 with 216,000 never touched the differential oil. Running fine with no noise at all. the Transmission was pulled at 160,000 miles to replace a clutch and the oil was changed then even though it showed no signs of breaking down. there no combustion or high heat breakdown issues in gear boxes so I see no need to change them.

Now, knowing the issues with the differential howl after a few thousand miles, I will probably change out the differential oil early to remove any metal contaminates that may be present in hopes it will avoid the howl.

I'm not recommending doing this in a vehicle that will retain value at high millage, only stating that it has not caused me any problems.

I have well over 11,000 miles on my 2016 TRD sport. I have a manual six speed and haven't heard any howl. I'll say the exhaust sounds a bit loud. Not at the tailpipe but even my wife asked what's that noise under our feet. It's the rumble and tumble of the exhaust running through the system it appears. Did the TRD sport come with a TRD exhaust from the factory?? Or some enhanced exhaust system?

The engine of course has that tapping sound like a bad lifter especially in the cold on a start and other times at idle. All the 3.5 liter Atkinson/ Otto engines of this type have that sound. I've been told it's the injector pump. Anyway it's normal.

As my father in law used to say about strange car noises. Leave it alone. When it falls out you'll know what it is!
