HELP! Too many different engine noises

Ok guys. I need help from the experts. So I've been doing my research and yes everyone says it's a normal "taco tick" but.. From all the videos I've seen I feel like mine is just way too loud to be "normal" I need help. The sound is louder as I get closer to the catalytic converter that has the heat shield on it (drivers side) I've had this noise for about 2 months now. And it feels like it's getting worse. I do notice a lot of black sut on my manifolds.. but it's on both sides. The belt is kind of loud. This is a 2009 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport DCLB. Just had oil change about 2k miles ago and spark plugs about 600 miles ago. Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. P.s just hit 61k miles and it's too early for noises. Dealers are no help. Mine does that, just changed the oil and added 1qt of Lucas oil treatment, so much better now.

 

Lucas is ok IMO, I would do a proper seafoam to help fight against hard idle. The black soot lol which manifold is it on? Exhaust or intake? or near valve covers?

 

Exhaust manifold has a little black soot and do you think seafoam will help the rough idle and maybe quite Down the sound a little ? Does it sound normal ?

 

Yey, I asked the same shit like a week ago about the sound and everyone said its normal. It's fine, I'm used to it now. I think a proper seafoam would do the trick for softening it a little bit but it's never gonna go away. With Lucas, all I got was a placebo effect, it never really did anything, Seafoam seems to clean some carbon buildup from pistons, rings, etc which may lead to less "knock" as we all hear, but you have to seafoam it properly. It has to have time to sit and "eat" away at carbon deposits. Maybe exhaust manifold gasket is blown, I wouldn't expect it on a 61k mile truck, let alone mine at 99k. Does any part of the black soot have a sheen to it? My valve cover gaskets blew on both sides causing engine oil to leak down onto the block and exhaust manifold and it looked black on the manifold being it was burning because of the heat.

Theirs an old post about putting a rubber washer behind the little sensor on driver side of engine to reduce the tapping sound, If I find it I will post it for you. If I were you though,I would start with a NEW gatorback/continental serpentine belt. I also replaced all my idler pulleys and tensioner pulley. I also cleaned all the other pulleys with toothbrush and brake clean. I cant believe how quiet she is now. The gatorback belt is Life changing

question i have is why is the coolant expansion tank full to the top ?

It should not be more than half full when engine is at operating temp, there are upper and lower limit lines on tank for when cool.

 

Your engine sounds just like my 2013 Access cab V6, a sewing machine on steroids, but I do detect an exhaust leak. This would explain the soot you see. Using something heat resistant; like an oven mitt, cover every joint and connection of your exhaust system with the engine running. This should help you find the leak.
