I feel the braking could be improved on my Tacoma. Any pros and cons to the rear disc conversion?

I plan upgrading the front to slotted rotors, better pads, and stainless lines all around front and rear.

Should I even consider the rear disc conversion or just stay with the drums?

Who even makes a disc conversion kit for the 2nd gen?...

I honestly wouldn't bother.... but then again I find my truck brakes fine.

Doing the rear will not improve your braking, Your brake proportioning will be wrong and all you will do is drive up your maintenance costs.

Theres a few places, but from what Im reading you may loose your parking brake, something I do not want to loose.

I just find the brakes a little soft.

Sounds like the conversion isnt worth it then.
I'll stick with plan A and do the lines, better front rotors, and pads.

    Thanks

Someone did it on here I think. Don't remember there being much improvement.

There is a BBK kit from StopTech, @Kelvin has one for sale.

You do not need to service drums for a very long time. When I had 05 taco, we opened the drums on 250K to service them, they were still like brand new. All the braking is done by the front discs.

You'll be happy with upgrading front rotors and pads just get some braided lines you'd be surprised more responsive your brakes will be.
Main reason Toyota didn't do disc in the rear our rear end is to light , aswell as longevity , cheaper.

Braided stainless lines will improve this somewhat.

Love my rear disk conversion! OMG it is soooooo much better at braking. Trust me, I push my vehicle.

I have 6 piston front, with 2010 4Runner rear components, from the SOS Perf kit.

No need to change the proportioning valve. Just install, bleed and go.

No, as a lot speculated, the rears have not once locked up before the front. I have tested them in threshold braking as well as emergency. They rock.

What year do I need? This sounds interesting.

    New calipers would be nice.

What kit did you buy and did you retain your parking brake?
