Are all Tacoma brakes so sensitive?

    Suspension, 33s, some armor... Rust, Gray wire and 2Low, and more. T4r is stock.
    OP, this is the 1stGen section and you have a 2ndGen. You might get better help from the guys in the 2ndGen section. If I were you I'd repost this in the 2ndGen section.

    With that said, in my experience older GM vehicles have a "softer touch" to the brakes. My wife's Accord on the other hand will give you whiplash because the brakes are really touchy. It might just be a different feel that you'll have to get use to. If your truck is still under warranty I'd take it to a dealer for an inspection if you think there is an issue. I don't remember anyone complaining about overly sensitive brakes on a Tacoma before now, normally they are saying the exact opposite, maybe your truck has been modified... good luck.

    well I notice you own the 2015 Tacoma and this is the first gen forum for 06-04 tacomas

    they still have lots of similarities but for the most part newer tacomas are very different trucks, so its best to ask in the right forum that covers your truck

    Yes, I will be conscious about posting in the correct section next time. I think we can close the discussion on this one. I've been driving it for a week, and it's really only been an issue just before the vehicle comes to a complete stop. It's hard to make a smooth stop. With 28K miles, I don't there are any service related issues. I really think it's just me and a new vehicle. It's different and I'll adjust. Thanks everyone for the input.

    Haha I test drove a 2015 TRD OR a few years back, and the brakes on my new 2017 TRD OR are incredibly tight, which is really nice but takes a while to get used to after driving a lowered BMW prior to the taco.....Like they said I think you just got to get used to it bud.

    Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
    I noticed when I went from an '06 to a '14 that the brakes were more touchy. My '13 Camry XLE Hybrid.... now those are some touchy brakes with that regressive system. Very hard to get used to. They feel REAL touchy, yet if you stomp them, at times they can feel inadequate.

    In my experience "This vehicle has touchy brakes!" usually means "This vehicle's brakes are touchier than my previous vehicle and I'm not used to it yet."

    I keep a special right shoe in my 2nd gen just to wear while driving. There's no feel in my normal work shoes.

    fixed.... 09+ 4x4 TRD OR's have the electric boosted master cylinder (as well possibly some older models with optional VSC package) .... this master cylinder has the 4 channel abs unit built in and is capable of 2x greater line pressures with the same pedal pressure compared to the vacuum boosted setup found on all other tacos.

    I love my electric boosted master cylinder.

    I thought it was just me! Told myself I just needed to adjust my driving style having never had anything but domestic trucks. So i put 12K miles on my 15 TRD off road extended cab and swapped out brake pads, had adjustments made to the pro portioning valve system, swapped out my brake lines for all pro stainless, new alignment, etc, and still....if I didn't pay extremely close attention I'd launch my wife into the dash board. Touchiest brakes ever!! So I completely fixed the problem by installing an Icon Stage 7 suspension and lift, coupled with all pro expedition springs in the rear. After making a few "click" adjustments to the shock settings it's perfect. It drives better than my Chevies and more like a Cadillac. Except for being able to take whoop de do's and chuck holes at 40-60 mph. Which is pretty damn cool ...all by itself. 33" tires too, all at the same time but the major fix was putting in the new suspension.

    The suspension is completely independent of the brakes and does not affect them. The 33" tires put a heavier load on the brakes reducing the brake performance, which made them less 'touchy'.

    My 2013 Off Road has the best brakes I've ever had on a vehicle, I'm always a bit confused by the complaints.

    When I first bought it at 30k miles however, the brakes were crazy sensitive, especially at stop signs and lights... I'd start applying the brake to slow down and then if I wasn't careful it would slam us all into the windshield. It felt as if the brake pedal's force wasn't linear.

    That was all solved with new front hubs. The bearings on the old ones had already worn out and was creating a gap between the rotor and the pads. This gap was what was causing my sensitivity issue. Not sure if that's your problem but it made a world of difference with mine.

    The 2nd gen brakes are very sensitive IMO. My gen 1 brakes are not nearly as sensitive, or powerful. I have nearly put myself through the windshield several times after not driving my 2nd gen for a week and forgetting just how strong they are.

    I'm sure the tires helped, but I'm thinking that the suspension mods stopped the deep front end dive and spring back I was experiencing? In my "completely non scientific" straight line stop testing both before and after there was no difference in linear feet. In other words I was stopping just as quickly but without the unwanted behavior or physical experience. Since I didn't think tire size perceptibly affected downward spring action on flat pavement when braking i.e.: momentum and inertia, I'm still convinced the suspension primarily solved this problem for me.

    The Weight definitely helped the momentum even out. Now, I'm not Neil DeGrasse Tyson, but less weight with touchy brakes will launch you forward, Right ?? So Add weight, And it'll be harder to launch you forward, Right???

    Plus: Add aftermarket Suspension, And it'll smooth out the braking system(Maybe the new Suspension maybe added or subtracted Weight)

    It's not just Momentum & Inertia. There's Weight, Rebound, EtC

    The main culprit is, Disc in the front & drums in the rear....4 wheel disc brakes will stop on a dime before you reach a Momma Duck & her Offspring crossing the road. Neil DeGrasse Tyson (sarcasm) figured out that Drum's in the Rear will help you you crawl out of sand, SO Drums in the rear wont go away..Thus, Keeping Mediocre Braking systems on Tacoma's a standard

    Lol...I flew to Dallas to get mine and the sales guy picked me up in it at the airport. On way back to the dealer I was thinking "this guy is a damn idiot and doesn't know how to drive". Couple hours later I was the idiot bouncing around trying to get used to the brakes...lol...it is what it is.
