At this point in the model year, it seems like it's pretty much impossible to get a manual Pro in Canada.

I placed a deposit and order back at the begining of December for a cement manual. I was given an ETA of 2-3 months. I heard back last week that I can't have one now, that there is "like 1 more coming to the country", and that I can have an auto...in August. Wtf Toyota? After 4 months of no updates, just "sorry, not happening".

I've been lurking on here for months before I ordered, and since, and I'm still just as set on a manual. I mean an auto wouldn't be the end of the world, but I want the taco I've been waiting for, the one I ordered, the one I'd keep and drive for the next 10+ years. I don't want to settle, and I don't want to wait 9 months for a truck. 2,3, hell 6 months...for a manual cement unicorn, fine, I'll wait. But if I'm waiting 9 for an auto, I'd cancel and get a 2018 manual, from a different dealer. Why can't these clowns get their $h!t together and just take my money?

Someone probably offered more money for the truck you want.

I was talking to my dealer on Saturday about my truck which is scheduled to be here in Thursday/Friday. Its a Manual Sport and he said they were getting a lot of calls trying to steal it away. Apparently not many manuals to be had. I've been waiting since January.

I feel your pain my man. My Cement MT took ages to get here.

If you're willing to travel and deal with customs/importing there are still a couple Cement MTs for sale in the US Northeast/Southern area. I don't see any reason why the Canadian feds wouldn't let you bring it home and the US models actually get all the cool electronic gizmos! Canadian MT Tacos seem to be missing a few features for some strange reason.

I don't know, but the dealer offered me the auto at the same price we wrote up the manual sales contract for. That's over $3k CAD difference in price, plus I was under MSRP on our agreed manual price.
They also offered to "build me a custom pro" with aftermarket parts on another OR manual. Not what I'm looking for as I want the tech package and the leather of the pro, without the moonroof. I really just want the pro.

kk, I liked this post cuz...I read it, but not kuz I'm snickering aboot not being able to get what ya want....

I want to say I feel your pain, but i honestly cannot say so...you see, i tripped over my unicorn unexpectantly, recognized the unicorn shyte on my shoe sole and quickly snapped it up. However, I did perform some due diligence pre buy. I tried to find comps for sale in Ontario. Know what i found? This was the only MT 3rd gen for sale in Ontario

So, I dont feel your pain as such, but I certainly DO where it initiates. At the time I didnt know what I didnt know...now i do know

They are rare, stalk your prey, be flexible on the colour

Yeah, I had my heart set on the cement, but I could handle white. At this point, if a red one popped up, I would take it.

It's not Toyota it's your dealer. Toyota had a fucked up ordering policy, you can't actually order a pro, the dealer has to wait for an allotment, then they can spec particular options depending on which way the wind is blowing and a bunch or other undefined vodo. Yes it's a daft policy, but the dealer knows this and should have explained it to you. I take it importing one is a pain/impossible, but there a few cement MT's sitting at us dealers if thats an option.

Stick with what you want. If you settle for something else, you'll probably regret it later on. I'm sure it's frustrating the shit out of you though.

If you want a modified off-road. Don't get the dealer to build it for you. You can do it cheaper yourself. Get a Pro. Have you tried talking to any other dealers?

Fortunately I lucked out with cochrane Toyota having the exact model I wanted (conveniently 2 minutes from my house). But when I was at another dealership trying to source one out it was slim pickings to find that many Off-Road models. There was a couple white and black models but only 1 in Alberta that was inferno (with 1 or 2 eventually getting brought in). Best advice is what mostly everyone else has said. If you want a certain colour get it!

yeah, I went through the same thing trying to get a Pro....i just wasnt high enough on the waiting list to ever get it. My dealer tried everything to get it, ie swapping with other dealerships etc etc. So he offered to build it for me, it turned out awesome....i got everything i wanted and more than the pro. If you are looking for a kickass dealership to deal with, that will accommodate you 100%, talk to Chris ( Jim Pattison Downtown Vancouver)...hes the general manager there. Best buying experience i have ever had. I tried to purchase from our local dealership here in Victoria, B.C., turned out to be a nightmare and i ended up demanding my deposit back.

    Where in Canada are you?

When I went looking for my Taco (OR) I was told the allotment goes to dealerships who sell BIG numbers first. Then the dealer trades happen IF the originating dealer ok’s it (they are their vehicles at this point not Toyota Canada’s). Smaller dealerships get what they get and have to trade between themselves and other dealers to get what they want. They can order but the big dealers once again are front of the que and on something like a PRO a smaller dealer might not have a chance if any other dealer in the country wants the same thing.

I went from Windsor Ontario to London a few times to check out colours in person. I drove 8hrs round trip to Toronto just to be able to test drive a manual. (Dealership in Detroit said I could test drive one there until I showed up and then they refused because I was out of state). When I even mentioned dealer trade at the T.O. dealership they said flat out they could sell it on their own and didn’t need to do a dealer trade and tried to strong-arm me into a deal right then.

I would talk to your dealership and be honest with them about how bad you want this truck. Let them know that you will go to a bigger dealer IF they can’t make a deal on their own. Let them know you are willing to do all service with them even if you have to buy it elsewhere. If you find a decent dealer they might help you locate your truck and introduce you to the other dealer. It is a big might as everyone just like you shows up to work to make a dollar.

The next thing to do is call Toyota Canada customer service or have your dealer get you in touch with their regional managers. It isn’t going to be an easy fight no matter what. You may be travelling to a big dealer to make your deal.
