Do they stamp vin numbers on tailgates? If they did, check your local craigslist

I told the police that and they said there is no vin number but there is a stamp on it. Their "investigators" supposedly do check local craigslists but i'm not holding my breath. I'll just take it as a loss and move on. I'll be damn sure to always lock it from now on.

Get a Pop-N-Lock! When you lock the doors, the tailgate locks too.

yep, back up camera there. that's a plus for the thieves. they can sell both separately. and i also have to rekey the tailgate as well.

Another suggestion here, next time park your car facing your front yard or front house.. park it as close to your garage door that you need to move the truck first if tailgate needs to be open.

This is another reason I got the Pop & Lock. Don't have to remember to lock the tailgate. I never heard of such a thing, but a friend told me it is a thing for people to steal tailgates...sucks and hope those who did it are run over by a bus.

Seriously what's the street value on a damn tailgate? I don't understand why these would be a valuable target?

People damage their tailgates all the time. They are expensive to replace and easy to steal.

I actually took my hinge off, bent a piece of metal on my press to match the curve and welded it in. Painted with color match. Tailgate won't come off without removing the hinge bolts. IMG_0150_5585c6aebb1ff2e83a7c20413bfb3fde9c4ff676.jpg

You should look into grabbing a few OEM hinges and modify a batch, then sell 'em on here... maybe even as core exchange. (Discount if you send your old one in type thing)

I bet you'd have quite a few takers!
