2005-2015 Tacoma Tailgate Lock

All these threads about jacked tailgates making me paranoid

 

Not sure, I'm currently more than 6,000 miles away from my truck.

 

Subbed for 3rd Gen as well

 

There is a factory tail gate lock on the handle.

 

I've heard it can be beat pretty easily.

 

I'm not going to trust that if I forget to lock it or decide to leave the bed open when hauling materials. Even with a pop lock installed it would be a nice peace of mind to have an additional layer of security when my tailgate is down.

 

Not effective if not locked.

Any plans for the 3rd gen Tacoma?? Or will these work on the 16'?

 

It is March 28th.. First quarter of 2017 is over...

 

Question. Are there versions specific for certain years?

Asking because I picked one up from another TW member and doesn't seem to fit on mine.

Got a 2014 Sport. Looks like there is not enough room for the ring to slide in between the tailgate gate and the "ring" this goes around.

 

I think what he had was version 2. I noticed the little weld as well on mine, when I tried to put it on.

Assuming you are using one as well, correct? What/how did you install it?

 

Thank you sir. Going to try and mess with it some more later today then, at home. Was trying to do it today on my lunch break real quick, but didn't want to mess with it too much and get all dirty and what not, and then come back to work.

OK, so I took a look at it again tonight and for the life of me can't figure out what you're talking about.

What bolt and what torx screws are you talking about? Got pics?

 

Gotcha. Now I see what bolts you're talking about. I tried to take off one of the hex on the side, but that shit didn't even budge. Guess I gotta put more back into it.

One of my Torx heads stripped out because it was so tight, I guess because of the paint. Gave me the chance to replace it with a security bolt, which I hope adds more security to the tailgate removal method above.

 

Interesting... Knowing my luck, the same thing will likely happen to me then. If and when it does, do you have a link or info on the bolt you used by chance?! Figured I'd just copy you. LOL!

 

I got the bolt and matching bit from Lowes. It was a while ago, so not sure if the store had it in stock, or if I had to order online at Lowes.com and pick it up at the store.
