This story reminds of me of when I had my older brother as my roommate in college. I was under the age at the time, coming back from a party with some beer in the backpack for an afterparty at my apartment. I come walking down the hall and see some cops standing out front my door. Scared shitless with a backpack full of beer, I walk up to the cops and ask what's up. The cops were cool, they just said that they were called out because my brother was drunk and completely lost it, yelling, threatening to beat my roommate's ass etc and he threw our vacuum out the window (it only ripped the screen not the glass).

I told the cops I was his younger brother (I'm bigger than him) and that I'd take care of him. They said keep it cool and if they got called out here again they'd take him in. I told them I'd handle it so they left. My bro started to get agro on me and I told him if he didn't calm the hell down I'd kick his ass. That really pissed him off. He tried swinging, I dodged, and swung back. Clocked him right on his left eye socket and he was down and out.

The next morning I woke up to check on him and he was still passed out on the couch with a swollen/black left eye. My neighbors started calling me Tyson after that. I guess I was just pissed that I could've gotten busted for minor in possession and the fact that my older brother couldn't handle his shit. Ever since then, I've never really enjoyed my brother's company when there's alcohol involved. It's probably the worst experience I've had when it comes to family, because he was my best friend. Now I can't stand to see him drink, even still, over 10 years since the incident (he doesn't drink nearly as much, nor does he act like he did back then, but there's always the potential).

Sorry for the long thread. Feels kinda good to talk about it I guess...

I agree with everybody that said kick his ass out.

I've read the back-and-forth about the fight and not remembering and all that, and I'd say that even in this situation a full-on beat-down probably wasn't necessary. He was drunk as hell, and a few solid punches should have been enough to stop his aggression. Don't get me wrong, I'm not siding with his drunk ass, but sometimes even self-defense doesn't work if the 'victim' is obviously beaten more than necessary. It's the world we live in.

It's like... If an armed robber comes in my house and I shot him once (maybe twice) in self-defense, I wouldn't be too worried about getting in trouble. If I unloaded the gun, re-loaded, and unloaded again, I might have to worry about people asking questions. I don't know if that even makes sense outside my head.

    ***UPDATE***

so it's been a week since the incident, and the housemate came back to the house for the first time on Sunday. He pretended like nothing happened, completely ignored the entire incident. Both his eyes were black, like pandas, and his face was swollen. His lips were also cut. He just did his laundry, smoked a bowl, and left. He's been in the house on and off since, and has never brought it up.

We're all guessing he's just embarrassed. He actually literally sitting next to me on his computer as I type. Things are cool, for the time being, in this college house
