The tweeter mount is integral on the stock tweeter. So pick your favorite tweeter, get custom mounts that fit that tweeter, then bolt it in.

i went with some pioneer ones.

    https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-TS-T...id=1490663744&sr=8-1&keywords=pioneer+tweeter

a 3/4in wide 1/8th thick aluminum flat bar cut to size and 3 holes drilled (two to attach to door, one for the tweeter) n boom you are golden.

FYI, Stock tweeter wiring is REVERSE polarity (something about making a larger sound stage....) either way, I wired my pioneer tweeters in properly (that is positive on the harness side / main speaker to positive on the tweeter) and called it good. Shit sounds great. Also i used the plug off the stock tweeter so i didnt have to cut the main door harness at all.

Is it JBL, or JVC that makes the P-Series (power) series speakers?? Hard to find, but my last set with no amp sounded superbly awesome!!!!

Your tweeters are wired out of phase. The capacitor used to limit the low frequencies to the tweeter inverts the sine wave, I.e. the positive half of the sine wave going into the capacitor results in a negative output to the tweeter.

I went with Focal Speakers from Crutchfield in the front and mounted the tweeters in the factory screen. Just be aware that you cannot buy that goofy little black plastic screen by itself if you mess up....

I have done a few of these on my own and have settled on bending a piece of metal strap into a U shape (with wings) to bolt into the stock locations. I use the strong 3M mounting tape on the back of the tweeter and stick it to strap. Keeps the stock look, no cutting.

the pioneer speakers were wired as stated in the manual of the speakers. Wire positive of the tweeter to positive of the main speaker. Maybe they accounted for this reverse polarity caused by the cap (i imagine they did).

Where is/was the factory capacitor? Is it part of the harness or part of the tweeter? Same question for the new tweeters.

factory tweeter had a cap... forget which side it was on as far as positive or negative, but it was glued to the tweeter itself.

those pioneers i linked to have a cap inline to the tweeter.

But just note, like stated, the negative (black colored wire and marked negative on the tweeter) on the STOCK tweeter (tweeter side of the plug) went to the positive (harness side) for the main speaker likely for reasons stated above.

All conventional setup of aftermarket speakers show that you wire your positives together. Because likely with an inline cap like the pioneers i linked to this reversal of polarity after the cap has been taken into consideration and things have been marked accordingly. So just make sure that the positive of your aftermarket tweeter goes to the positive on the harness side irrespective of the coloring / markings of the original tweeter.

+1 for Focals. Got a great deal on their PS 165 V1 2-Way Component Kit.

Didn't plan ahead well enough to get ********* tweeter mounts as recommended by @Torspd, so I went with a home-spun mount solution similar to @nd4spdbh's.

The factory wiring took the phase reversal into consideration if the tweeters negative wire comes from the positive wire of the other driver exactly for the reason I stated.

If the cap on both the factory and replacement tweeters are terminated to the same terminal respectively, I stand by what I said.

The only way around that, for wiring + to + and - to -, would me to get 2 caps, twice the value needed and wire them in series or end to end.

what im saying is that the pioneer tweeters label the wires positive and negative and say to hook to positive and respective negative of the main speaker, they took the phase reversal into consideration from the pioneer factory and have actually attached the wire labeled positive to the negative side of the tweeter n visa versa so you dont have to do it.

I still have my factory tweeters (swapped out my other speakers years ago). Can the new tweeters be connected to the standard coaxial speakers with no issue?

I seem to remember some issue, or reason I didn't do it when I replaced the other speakers. It may have been the way that they mount to the door.

I have factory JBL system in my 2011 Taco. Can I just swap aftermarket speakers in place of the factory ones? I'm told the JBL amp does all the cross-over and the speakers have to be 2 ohm. The guy at Cartoys told me I would need to tap into the HU speaker output and add a LOC and amp...which adds about 3-500 bucks. I'm not trying to make a high power system, just want better speakers. After listening to some Focals (component type in front and coax in rear) I couldn't believe how much better they sound.
