Where Have You Off-Roaded Today? 3rd Gen

Had a little fun in the outskirts of Vancouver BC.

My friend and I took our trucks out to the Rio Puerco just West of Rio Rancho, NM today. For stock trucks they did great!

I was just there Saturday evening. It's a pretty cool spot!

 

What's the difference between a Taco and a Tundra you asked? Would have been better if the Tundra was 4X4 Lancaster CA.

 

Saw the videos on FB and wished I was there too, any scrape?

 

Washed it when I got home, didn't find any scraps , but I know there was a few branches that slid across that had me sorta concerned.

Front stock skid survived the rocks in the river as well.

Not sure about the tundra though. He might have picked up a few just cause of size.

Good group of people though. Met them previous week at the Tims meet.

 

Got to a cool overlook of my little mountain town of Durango the other day

 

When you can't see where the road is because there is so much snow, I consider it off-roading.

All of these are from my workplace in Lake Tahoe this winter.

 

How did the Sport and OR compare in that terrain?

 

Just down to the lake at my father in law's farm

 

Really well actually. I had to drive the Sport one at one point because she wasn't comfortable doing it herself but it handled everything just about the same as the OR. The biggest difference was that I could go on some more slick/rockier hills than she could because of the crawl control. She would lose traction every time she tried. Our wheels were also different too so that could've been a factor.

 

Biggest factor was likely the stock tires that come on the sport. Toyota puts highway tires on a lot of their off road vehicles. I know my '16 trail 4Runner has crappy Bridgestone highway tires that are soon coming off my rig!

Yep...my '14 TAco Sport came with Dunlop tires. Quickly switched them to BFG KO's. Huge difference...on-road and off-road diving were night and day better, but at the expense of fuel economy. Worth it in my opinion.

 

Vandenberg Air Force Base! Quite a few trails but nothing the Taco can't handle. Just hope I don't run into security forces!
