O sorry about the tailgate OP, I had an electric lock installed by transonic customs in your area. They gave me a good price.

I've got an extra one from my 2nd gen I can use. Tho I don't really think this is a problem for cement tacos.

Dang, that sucks. Not having an original VIN tagged tail gate probably drops the trucks value by 3 or 4 grand.

JK, but it would stink if insurance has to order you a new one and it's painted. I'd rather have a factory painted unit.

They did it for $200 if I remember. I thought of doing it myself but didn't want to mess with electrical.

Cool. I finally replaced that tailgate. A fellow TW member hooked it up. My truck is finally whole again. Hopefully i won't ever have to replace this one again. Now i need to rekey it and install that pop n lock.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but, put a Craigslist subscribe on anything having to do with Toyota tailgates. Thieves aren't that smart. My buddy got all his shit back that way.

Well, I couldve just taken your pro emblems, but I was afraid to leave my fingerprints behind as well as the glue not holding up on my truck.

I had just put on a fresh coat of wax so your fingerprints wouldn't have stuck anyways. But, since i got a new tailgate, i was debating whether it was worth it to put back new trd pro badges. it might attract too much unwanted attention to new thieves.

This is good advice for parking in garages and such.

I have the hose clamp on my tailgate but every time I drive to Houston I stress over this.

Make sure they wire it up to the passenger or rear door controller, not the drivers. The lock is noisy as hell mounted inside the tailgait (echo chamber with no sound deadening), and the clank unlock is really annoying every time you just unlock/open the drivers door.

Good to know. was watching the install thread and there was a lot of taking apart of the interior, hope those guys put everything back up to spec. Don't want my seatbelt malfunctioning or something. I would try to install myself but i have 10 fingers and all thumbs.

I'm really sorry this happened to you...but I'm glad you're sharing so that others can take precautions. When mine isn't in my garage (because my Mini Cooper is in there), mine locked and is backed all the way up to the garage door too...IMG_1771.jpg

Put the Mini in the bed and park them both in the garage.
