    Hi,
I'm ready to buy a Yakima roof rack.
I only need the base rack system and the wind fairing.

Can somebody tell me which mounting system I need? Is it the Qtowers?

    Your help would be appreciated!

    Thanks
    Donald

Yes the Q towers. I have a Yakima system but I swapped it out for the OEM roof rack. The Yakima is sitting in my garage right now. I'm thinking about using it for another project, maybe.;) Go to Yakima's website. They should have all the information that you need.

Where do the yakimas mount? Do they go into that that groove? I have them on my cap, but I need to add one on the roof to keep canoes and lumber and stuff from hitting my roof.

You have to open the door and the hooks stick onto the ends of the roof.

Do they have any that utilize the holes that the OEM rack would use? I thought it would be nice to just have the bases on the roof and then attach the crossbars when needed.

Do the ones that hook into the door openings cause any wind noise issues?

    Thanks

Not sure if they have any racks that utilize the holes that the OEM uses?

The Yakima system never made any wind issues on my truck.

WWFF why did you chose OEM over yakima? I am looking to buy a multi purpose rack for my double cab. Any suggestions?

Reason I went with OEM was the option to stow away the bars when not in use for better aerodynamics. Plus the OEM one looked sharper to me IMO. What exactly are you going to be putting on the rack?

12foot canoe strapped to the roof rack and then to a hitch extender at cab height. I was thinking the yakima would be more vesatile but I am will you on being able to take it off. I will only need to use in on a few occasion and only in the summer. BY the way what did that TRD skid plate run. I just ordered the light bar and some sliders from Brandon at Avid.
    Thanks,

    Aaron

    Stock for now

Yes there was a guy over at TN that attached Thule cleats to the mounting holes under the rubber strips. The towers/load bar snaps into the cleat when you want to use it. The cleat is visible but its pretty small.

As far as wind noise, I do not notice any with my thule rack/fairing. Its been on the truck for over 3 years.

Here is the pics on utilizing the mounting points. Just the cleat is pictured. Its part of one of Thule kits.
