Let's See Some Softoppers

I made it, and it's does not get locked in. It sits on rubber feet, and has thin strips of rubber glued to the side, and just barely fits in the opening. It does not move at all.

 

It appears we both want one for bikes. I was also looking at hard shells first, but your interest to switch has me intrigued. Do you have a 5' bed?

Awesome thread! Looks like I'm going to go with the gray softopper. Quick question, how does the bed light on the 3rd gen shine through the topper? I want to make sure there is light in the bed once installed.

 

What size quik fist for the light?

Has anyone installed a trigger or sensor on the tailgate for the alarm? Some a-hole crawled into my bed last night and slashed the window by the cab trying to get into the truck. I'm sick of people getting into my bed, and I figure if I lock the rear window somehow they'll just slash it. Hoping for something more discrete.

 

I was literally just thinking about how no one seems to be posting anything about people breaking into the soft tops. Maybe I'm wrong. Does this happen to a lot of people and where do you live?

 

Lights are just strip lighting connected to a 12v USB battery pack with a charge level indicator. Works great for around 3-4 hours but it's only a 5000mah battery. Will be upgrading later this summer to a significantly larger battery source that can power other items while the truck is off (air compressor, ham radio, etc).

Love the storage. Ended up building drawers on carpet sliders. Redid the top as the original plywood I used from home Depot warped due to their horrific quality of lumber. Used 3/4 ply from a lumberyard and it's doing well.

 

No issues yet. I found the zipper on one side undone once after parking in an area known for petty crime. No need to cut or break in when you can look in and unzip it.

 

Ive added some cable type locks to my Supertop to lock the zippers. Its a little added security and peace of mind to keep the zippers from being unzipped from the outside.

 

Dammit that blows. There are 2 pretty easy options for tailgates:

1- a "plunger" type switch usually used for hoods:

I live kind of in the ghetto of Salt Lake. And apparently I was one of 4 cars to be hit. Others had windows broken out. The sticky bandits were in full force.

Thanks for the advice! I have been looking at a plunger style setup. I'll let you know what I find.

 

Any concerns of this increasing the risk of damage to your topper?

 

Sure. Instead of unzipping it to see what's inside it, someone may go straight to slicing it open....

 

Has anyone put a 3rd gen Softopper on a 2nd gen taco? If so how is the fitment? I'm most curious about how the height lines up with the top of the cab.
