Kobalt toolbox mounted with J-Hooks, Locks on storage compartments in bed, Window Visors, Toolbox LED Lights, Underbody Lights, More to come.
They make slimline series toolboxs for shortbeds.
    I'd try one of them.

I thought about this too jonboy. If you plan on hauling a lot of stuff around, I'd just invest in a trailer. Not like a couch or motorcycle will fit in the back either way. Go for it, tools are more important. You can always burn a couch or other furniture...

Also, an excuse not to help out friends who are moving.

I have been wrestling with the same thing. Kobalt makes a slim low profile tool box for our trucks that I saw at lowes the other day for like $148. Not a bad deal if you ask me, but it only comes in silver as far as I can tell and I want black. Not sure if its worth trying to paint or not. Also just thought about getting a UWS chest that sits in the bed and setting it up so that I can pull the toolbox out pretty easy if I need the room in the bed. This is what I did in my last truck and it worked great.

thats where mine came from. last i saw on there, they didnt have one for the midsized trucks, only the fullsized and that one is too wide for the bed i believe. it was like $530, but it was a b-day gift a couple years ago
