Does your dealer add these stupid fees?

What's really scary is I googled reviews for my local dealer to see if anyone else mentioned this added sticker stuff and I can't find a single review that even mentions it! I mean there are some negative reviews but not for that, the dealer even has a rating of 4 stars out of 5 on most of those dealer rated sites. You think people don't even realize they're being ripped off for an extra $1987???

That's ridiculous! If you look at the carfax for 2016's in my area, the detailing and nitrogen filling of tires is done at the dealership before it goes on sale on all cars.

Also, beware of the "finance department fee". One dealership is charging $699 to help you get a crappy loan that is guaranteed to be 2% points more than if you get financing pre-approved on your own. The other dealerships in my area only charge $499-$599.

Next thing they'll dream up is charging for a free tank of gas.

I'd love to know what the cost is of building the average car. Overhead is probably a beast.

When they were showing me the Dealer Invoice on mine earlier today there was actually an $8.00 fee for the Free Tank of Gas, what a load of crap.

How are they saying courtesy shuttle when they are making you pay for it in an accessory package? Haha. We add stuff to the cars at dealer, but nothing nearly as much as that. And we do useful stuff, mud flaps, trunk tray, and wheel locks. Oh, and our courtesy shuttle is just that, courtesy, no payment needed!! But then again, I work for honda, lol.

The nitrogen filled tires are bullshit. I had a buddy that worked for big O tires and he would say the techs would just fill it with air.

before I purchased my truck last year I was looking at F-150's, Wrangler Unlimited, Ram 1500's and Tacoma's and there were a few dealerships in my area that had vehicles that I really like but a couple of these dealerships had these so called dealer add-ons which I walked away from and is why I ended up with the Tacoma that I have now. I refuse to pay for options that I don't want and especially dealer add-ons that I didn't ask for and if the dealership is one of those that says they don't negotiate price then I refuse to buy from them BUT I will test drive the hell out of their cars and then go buy from someone else that has a better price. There are wayyyyy tooooooo many people today that will just pay whatever the dealership wants and that's why you have dealerships that pull this kind of crap now.

Is there something special on your truck that you have to order it? I would try and expand your search to out of state dealers and see if any dealers in another state may have the truck you are looking for then deal with them by e-mail. That way there is nothing to order and you only have to go there once to pick up your truck. Our local Toyota dealer has a White PRO model with the manual transmission and it has been sitting on their lot for about a month. I guess no one local is interested but i'm sure someone from out of state will pick it up if they find out they have it.

look at Koons in Vienna. they are a high volume dealer and have great prices in print. I flew there for about 100 bucks and saved about 1500 compared to the local dealers. btw... I ordered my truck. They will run your credit though when you begin to deal.

Many years ago a great lobbying effort was conducted to make it illegal for car manufacturers to directly sell cars. This government protected monopoly of middlemen adding ever more fees and 'add-ons' is the result. Car dealerships deserve every bit of the bad reputation they have and I hope someday we get the government to stop protecting them so that real competition can come in and crush their predatory business model.

That's where I got my truck. I had a slightly different experience. No added fees like OP and no credit check to begin transaction or negotiations. I brought my own financing. Got about $4000 off sticker.

But I agree with the rest of it; don't pay those fees. The truck is tinted from the factory. The tires are warranteed from the manufacturer. I guarantee that the 'engines for life' only applies if you throw a rod and ruin the block; stuff like leaky gaskets & timing chains/belts are almost certainly not included, and they're likely to be the only issues you'd see with a Toyota engine. Professional delivery and technical assistance just means that they'll have a salesman drop the truck off and show you how things on it work.
Definitely nothing that's worth $2k. Run, don't walk, to another dealer.
