I am wanting to replace the factory stereo in my 2007 tacoma. I'm looking for suggestions on a double din receiver. I don't really need navigation or dvd. I mainly use my IPOD, CD's and the stereo. Also, which is better: metra or scosche for the install kit?

metra has the same texture as your existing (assuming you got trd and its silver) , I got this one, the scosche one is the same color and texture (smooth) as the pieces that hold the air vent right next to OEM HU.
As for other differences about fit and finish, search and read lots of threads on it.

The only reason I got metra is that thats what the guy who sold me the HU uses.

I'm in the same boat, looking for a new HU as well but my criteria is (CD/AM/FM Radio is assumed standard):
    1. Looks like it could have been a factory option (this includes the installation kit looking sharp).
    2. 4 Channel + adjustable Sub line level outputs.
    3. Stearing Wheel Interface.
    4. Real iPod controls.
    5. HD Radio would be nice.
    6. Blue Tooth would be nice.
    7. Amber lighting to match gauges preferred but not a deal breaker.

I have found a HU that I do like that may work for me. I'm not trying to push it on you and it may be more money than you're willing to spend but the Pioneer FH-P8000BT looks like it could have been a factory option. Very simplistic. Another one could be the Kenwood DPX303. I'm just tossing information out to you.

The link IrishPilot gave will help you quite a bit as one of the main key in this thread is the double DIN adapter. One adapter is not the same as another. Some really look like crap.

Good luck and if you find something that looks really nice, post a few photos.

I suggest going to Crutchfield.com and start looking at what they offer. They are an awesome resource.

Narrow your selection, and come back here and ask for some opinions and/or suggestions on what you found.

I suggest you stick with Pioneer, but that's just me.

+1 Crutchfield support (I'm in Canada and the guys I talked to in both countries were great).

Nothing wrong with Kenwood components either. The backup camera is nice.

If you go look at Crutchfield (actually where I found those two I was looking at), do not enter your truck info. It will limit you to see only what Crutchfield knows will fit, not the ones they haven't tested or just don't have the part themself to make it fit. There are kits you can buy, like mentioned here to fit just about anything.

P.S. Look how much advice you're getting. I'm glad you asked.

I have three in mind right now

    1. Kenwood DPX503
    2. Pioneer FH-P8000BT
    3. Pioneer AVH-P3200DVD

I don't know how much I would use the DVD though. The Panasonic P8000BT is probably at the top of the list right now. Anybody have any experience with it? I plan to use my IPOD quite a bit with whatever unit I pick.

Whatever you find out about the P8000BT, please post it since you know that's my main interest. I have read one review (don't recall where) that the iPod controls were easy to use ONCE you have it figured out.

And as for the P3200DVD, if you're not going to use it, why spend the money on it. Have you already upgraded your speakers?
