I've been happy with the muffler.
They say if it's too loud, you're too old.
    I'm old, and I don't think it's loud.

The new OEM rack you got came with ITRE's, correct?

Perfect, thank you! Going OEM for the pump and outer tie rods too. Going to be an expensive refresh.

Oh I know. this is my second rack since end of 2014 (Rack Doctor) and went through 2 reman A1-Cardone pumps. And that was with the truck sitting for 6 months with frame replacement and barely getting wheeled now with blown diff. I feel like once I replace my rack the pump whine will actually go away but I'm basically torturing the pump now with constant refills so it won't last much longer.

Alright, since I'm poking around in everyone's threads today I might as well get in here.

I've been talking a bit with @Reh5108 regarding my steering rack and have some questions:
It has a noticeable clunk that has developed as of late, particularly while turning and hitting a bump. The clunk seems to be intermittent, but is noticeable nonetheless. Ryan made mention that you had replaced your bushings and noticed some improvement, but not much? If I were to replace the guide and bushings could this potentially help, or would I be wasting money that could have otherwise been contributed to a new rack?

Also taking this over here so I don't completely bomb young Brett's thread today:

Nope, the problem definitely came with the rear bumper - particularly the ~100lb tire hanging off the ass.

I've been debating on how to level out weight. I was thinking of just placing the tire in the box for the time being, again, that defeats the purpose of the swingout. I've also thought about a tool box situated against the front of the box. After your comment with the sand bags, this leads me to believe that the tool box would need to be loaded to the brim with shit - not my anticipation for a tool box...
I'm also learning that more weight doesn't really seem like the solution to a bigger problem. More weight would just add more stress to the weak frame. So I think I just talked myself into a circle and concluded that I need to bump up boxing the frame on the to-do list.

Sadly I can't help you on that one Austin. I replaced my racks because of leaks, not play. I think my play wasn't terrible TBH.

Exactly. I spent years putting that Scout on a diet, everybody on this site is trying to fatten up what I consider to be a svelte mountain goat. Keep it light and functional.

I'd like to hear from @TuckGraham and see if he is having any flex. I'm not sure if you have seen how he did his swing-out, it's actually mounted to the bed rails. I doubt it made a difference, but would like to hear from him. Maybe he doesn't have the concrete roads we have here.

Have you ever pulled a trailer with your truck? I have, tent trailer and a construction trailer. Neither of those, hanging off the bumper heavier than a tire btw, caused the bounce. I have no idea why either.

    @alee891
As far as your rack, you'll need to jack both wheels off the ground and see where the play is. The bushings are easy to see, but if you have a clunk, I'd say it's the rack guide. That's where my clunk came from.
Since my rack was aftermarket, I opted for the new OEM rack. If yours is the OEM rack, maybe the guide replacement will do the trick. There was an upgraded guide at some point, maybe you still have the old roller style.

Trying to understand the underlying question here. As I'm just trying to catch up with whats been going on!
Are you asking about flex in the bedside or in the leafs?

Forget the flex, :) does your rear end hop up and down when you drive over concrete roads at speeds above 45mph?

I'm guessing it's the original rack, but I couldn't tell you. I'll take a look at it in a bit and report back. It's wishful thinking, but it'd be nice to only have to do the guide and bushings.

Well, that sucks. I had high hopes for it. Maybe it just needs refined.

    Stuff. Also things.
I really think the bucking is due to the wheelbase of these trucks and the 'pitch' between seams on the concrete roads here.

Mine does the same thing described. The worst section of road that I've noticed so far is on 287 between Broomfield and Louisville. It bucks like crazy if you're move by with the traffic.

That said, I'm not surprised at all if that effect is worsened with a swingout or a winch. Anything that cantilevers weight outboard of the wheels is gonna exacerbate that.

    That's my problem exactly.
1/4 steel bumper & winch on the front - 3/16 steel bumper, swingout, tire, co2 on the back. It's like a gawt damn teeter-totter.

I think I realized the problem:

You guys are far too concerned with how your truck rides on the way to the mall, when you should be more concerned with how it rides on the trail. :D
