That looks like a really nice tire. Someone else mentioned his one in an earlier post. This looks a lot like the Kelly Safari TSR. In fact, I wonder if this is just a rebranded Safari or if the Safari is a rebranded Authority? How is the road noise on this one?

The Cooper AT3 isn't aggressive enough? I'm really liking mine, granted I'm sure there are more aggressive options, I wanted the C rating and I like the large lugs on them.

With that said, I don't play much in the clay/mud combo anymore. My Virginia days are past and things are much dryer on the west coast.

Goodyear is the parent company of Kelly Tire Co. The Authority tire is a Wrangler tire but sold by Walmart. The Duratrac, Authority, and Safari TSR are all in the same family. If you want a M/T check out the Goodyear Fierce Attitude also sold by Walmart but is an E rated tire. I have had these Authority tires for about 6 mo. they seem to be wearing good with a smooth ride. I don't notice any road noise but I am used to a mud tire. Hope this helps.

I had that tire on my last Taco and really enjoyed it. It cleans out surprisingly well, much better than you would think when looking at it. The issue with it for me is that it's not that much more aggressive than the brand new OEM tires I have on it no. I figured if I change out new tires I want to go a size up and get something that has a lot more treat but still in the AT/Hybrid AT realm in a C rated tire. I would take a P but just don't see many out there in the 265/75/16.

I would add that if my tires were worn out and this was just an issue of replacement and I didn't need more tread, I would not hesitate to run this tire or anything else with the Cooper name on it. Great tires for the money and just great period...

I found a great deal for a set of used 265/70r17 Bf Goodrich K02s, less than 2000 miles on them, but they're load range E. I was aiming for a set of load range C but how much of a difference should I expect if I went with the E rating?

I've noticed that myself. I just prefer a wider tire to the 255. I have 265s on my truck right now and ideally would go up to the 275. Only tire i can find in 275/70r17 is the cooper at3. I just found out that toyo open country at2 come in 285/70r17 in a P range so I am also considering that too.

I have a question I'll throw in here, rather than start another thread... what are the advantages/disadvantages of going with a 265/75/16? Better tire selection and a little more ground clearance...anything else? I'm looking at the Cooper AT3 in this size (C load). Probably with stock suspension for the time being.

If you want 285s the new Nitto Ridge Grapplers come in a 285/70r17 C load. And they only weigh 52 lbs. The more aggressive Trail Grappler in the same size is also made in a C load, but weighs over 66 friggin pounds!

Lots of talk here about specs (weight, etc) and performance (real dirt/mud/snow/etc traction or perceived "aggressive" look) but what about tread and sidewall construction, and resistance to rock cuts and punctures? To me that's the real reason to go to an LT (C,D, or E) tire from P-metric or SL, but is LT really an improvement? It's hard to find actual ply specs on many manufacturer's websites. The worst sidewall cut I've ever had, pretty much unrepairable even to get off the trail using about ten plugs, was on a BFG MT Load Range E. Second worst was on an OEM SL-rated tire on my Ford Ranger. Third, a tread cut easily fixed with one plug, was on my current Taco's OEM P-rated Wrangler Adventures. I've put on many offroad miles on P-metric tires with no flats. What I am looking for to replace the Adventures is a 265/75-16 (i.e. slightly larger), slightly more aggressive tire, that is more cut-resistant than the Goodyears. Ideally, with only slight or no effect on dry/wet/snow grip, road noise, and power/fuel economy (other than because the 75 is slightly larger than the OEM 70 series). Does that mean another brand P or SL tire? Or does that mean I have to go to an LT, ideally C rated to keep weight down?

I saw the new Ridge Grapplers! and yeah if your putting trail grapplers on at that weight might as well just fill the tires with concrete.
