Don't own one myself (yet), but everyone I know with a Yeti + pickup keeps it against the tailgate and throws it in the back seat if they need to step away for a while.

Whats the deal with these Yeti coolers and why is everyone so crazy about them? I mean they look cool, but I can't figure out why would I need to spend $300-400 on a cooler?

I'm with you on that. Only way I could see a use for that high dollar cooler is camping for more then 3 days with no means of getting more ice for it. Also it is very heavy when loaded.

Borrow a friends for a trip. My Gatorades freeze with it 90 degrees out for 3 days. People bagged my 165q which was about 600bucks. Then a couple days in they were asking for the key for it because they're drinks were Luke warm or they wanted some ice to put in their cups. It's a lot of money but if you can afford it and you do weekend or weeklong camping trips get one. I'm probably gonna get a tiny K2 soon just to try and leave in my truck.

and that is exactly what I use mine for. Will be going on a canoe camping trip tomorrow morning, if my food and beers don't stay cold for 2-3 days I am not happy. Plus these bad boys are very heavy duty and I like that. I don't have yeti however, they are pricey for a cooler that is not as many quarts as it is advertised for. I don't feel like supporting their advertising campaign. Too many other players in the game to choose from:
    -Pelican
    -Grizzly
    -Brute (now Bison)
    -K2
    -Orion
    -Engle
    -Orca
    -Icey-Tek

The list goes on and on.
For your average Joe a high end cooler might not be used to it's full potential but for those that wear and tear on coolers, use them all the time and need ice to last more than 2-3 days then buying one cooler and being done with it is worth it.

I have a regular large 70 quart Coleman cooler I picked up at WalMart for like $45 or something. Went on a 4 day camping trip and when we got back, whatever was left in it was still very cold. Most of the ice was melted, but the water was definitely not warm.

The only thing I wish I had is a small portable freezer. My dog is raw fed, so would be nice to bring his regular food to camping trips, instead of feeding him kibble. His food is OK in a cooler for a couple of days, but I would definitely not keep it there for longer than that. Don't think a Yeti would really solve this one.

A yeti or grizzly and use dry ice. It freezes many of my drinks and food. Dry ice in the rack of the cooler and regular ice in the bottom and sometime I throw a piece of dry in the bottom with it

I have never bought dry ice before, where do you get it? Is it expensive? ( I think Publix may have it in FL but not sure) I usually just freeze "blocks" of water in a few tupperware containers and have a few blocks in there along with some cube ice and it works great.

I get my dry ice from publix. It's not that expensive i don't remember what I pay but I'm pretty cheap and I still get it so it can't be that bad lol. I wrap it in a towel so I don't burn myself but just place it in your rack in the top of the cooler

This is true and while my other walmart coolers might keep stuff cool they will def not last a lifetime. I have 2 that I am about to throw away that cost about that much and the lids are either waterlogged are something is broken on them. I def would not be able to stand on the lids cause one is caving in just from sitting on it. I like to use my cooler for multiple things not just as a cooler so I guess I see added value there too

Man, even their smallest 20qt cooler is like $250. Sorry, dog, I love you, but looks like you will have to eat dry food on our camping trips. hahah

best bang for your buck if you want a smaller one, these things are very nice and solid:

    20 quart
    http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-Produ...qid=1439571111&sr=1-4&keywords=pelican+cooler

    45 quart
    http://www.amazon.com/Pelican-ProGe..._sim_86_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=025S145J11VHMRTK3C7V

but I am also biased towards my cooler and I don't even own a pelican (they were too tall for the deminsions I needed by about an inch)

I throw mine under the tri fold and lock it with the pop in lock! Also i have a yeti 65 and it fits literally perfect, and the non sliding feet are legit, the cooler will not move...

Also chicks dig the yeti, so its paid for its self...

Walmart has the Pelican 35 for 165 plus free shipping. My excuse to spend $200+ plus on a performance cooler is that as long as it doesent get stolen it will last me forever. I've spent over $200 on cheap disposable coolers over the past 10years. A "performance" cooler will perform. I will attach it on d rings off my toolbox, when I decide on one. And I will keep it inside when I'm not around.

I apologize for being the FNG and bringing back to life a thread that has been dead for almost two years, but I just wanted to throw in my $0.02 (which in some countries is worth at least a $1.18).
Anyway, my Yeti lives in the back of my DD ('85) and has been there for almost 2 years without any tie downs or locks. No one has ever bothered it...perhaps they are scared of getting cut on the bed of the truck and getting tetanus. Or, perhaps they look at the truck and say, "You know, maybe that's all that poor bastard owns in this world and we should just leave it alone."
