Sorry, I am clearly slow on the uptake. Red Webster is a character on Road House.... can't make the connection.

Give me an hour I am going to have a few more drinks and come back to solve the riddle.

DD that frame looks great for an 02 just surface rust. Leave it and treat it with FF.

I would wire brush and POR 15 that whole frame if it was mine. POR 15 will stick to that light surface rust like glue.

I am only through page five of this thread, is there any data what percentage of rust-belt Tacomas are getting new frames?

I believe that Most - but not all were changed. It was apparent (at least to me) that all who failed the inspection got new frames. But not all failed. In two weeks we should have some info on the Class action suit for this issue. 24th?

I don't have data, but if you talk to people that rust check, or fluid film there truck every year, they seem to be fine.

I'm from Ontario, I have always sprayed the underneath every fall because of the salt and sand up here.

Just got my truck used last Wednesday, I spent past Saturday wire brushing and rust converter lot treating the rust on my frame in the trouble areas.

From what I saw on mine so far, it was mostly rust on the welds.

It has new springs, so it's been in a Toyota shop up on the lift recently. Unless the rust is why it was traded.

Anyway, it's going in next Saturday for a driveline fluid change, I plan to ask that the tech has a good look-over underneath.

If it gets a clean bill of health, I plan to attack things with the pressure washer, rust treat all viable rust and paint those areas.

Looking at buying a borescope to see inside how things look. If all looks good, I'll likely order up some frame treatment from Eastwood.

If things look bad, the 2017 Tacomas are nice too.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the frame price.

Maybe someone here can give some insight before I begin a new thread...

...any difference between old and new frames once replaced? In that I mean will the new frame eventually have the same problem?

I purchased an 06 with a brand spanking new frame and obviously want to drive it for a while, living in upstate NY I'm gonna Fluid Film the crap out of it this fall, but I'm just curious about the integrity of the replacement frames. I assume no one has had theirs long enough to find out right?

Imo I wouldn't count on the new frames being any better. People with 2010's are now having rust issues. I would fluid film it inside and out. It will last if you do this, even an original frame would last if this was done annually.

That's the plan, with Eastwood internal frame coating first. I'm also gonna hit any other places under the truck plus inside bumpers and stuff with Eastwood rust converter or encapsulator. Basically by the time winter rolls around again in going to have a salt brine proof truck.
