Thanks; I guess what I meant by plug-n-play was that it would be the simplest swap, although not simple in itself. What I anticipated doing is to get a donor truck and just swap out parts that weren't common between the two. I was expecting, or hoping, that mounting points for the V6 and associated components necessary for the swap would already exist on the Reg Cabs body/frame thus 'simplifying' the job.

That said I am just starting to explore the idea and appreciate the feedback.

Why not just drop the URD supercharger in? Less work and has a warranty I believe. You'll have the same #'s as the v6 or even better since its a reg cab plus you get the cool supercharge sound haha

Anyone done this yet? I can get a 4.0 motor transmission and t case for a grand. 120k on the motor. My little 4 banger has no power pushing 35s even after I regeared..

Dude. Best 4 cylinder on the market. It is effectively a VVT-I baby 2JZ. It is the 3rz short block with a variable intake cam head.

Turbo it and it will make loads of power, and awesome noises too. :D

Make sure all of your vacuum hoses aren't cracking up, and if you can, change your fuel filter. As it's been in there for 9 years.

You'll definitely regain some lost power.

Even if you got Engine/Tranny/T-case for cheap, you're still going to spend a ton of money on other misc parts, wire harness, ecu misc electronics, ect._ I do believe that the Traction control system and what not is also dependent on some engine stuff. In example on my Lexus when I lose traction the throttle is cut off on the engine and then other electronics takes over; ABS and what not to control traction. I haven't really experienced that in my Tacoma but I do know that Traction control works alongside the engine.

A question that would also come into mind is will the 4.0L Engine harness attach to the 2.7L cabin harness? Or are the pinouts/plugs different that you'll have to cut and piece together a custom harness adapter of some sort? I do quite a lot of engine swaps and always run into these issues; It's the electronics that can really slow down progress; however its not impossible. But ultimately the better choice here is to sell the truck you have now and get a 4.0 V6 truck instead; be much cheaper too.

If I'm going to dump that much money into a swap; I would do a Tundra 5.7L v8 swap as it may cost a bit more but be worth all the headache you gotta deal with. There is a Toyota Scion XB with a 4.7L Tundra V8 motor in it already so yes its all doable.
